Viasat are set to deliver, subject to contract award, as part of the Alliance, the Skynet Service Delivery Wrap (SDW) for the UK MOD.

Employees must already hold or be able to obtain, security clearance at SC to work on UK projects.

The Role

As the MILSAT Planning Manager for the Viasat SDW team you will report to the Service Planning Lead for the delivery of the Viasat SDW workstream. You will support the Service Planning function including the due diligence of processes and procedures across the Skynet system. The Viasat MILSAT Planning Manager will focus on ensuring the Alliance has the support to ensure all UK MOD requirements are met and provide advice and support to providing solutions to Allies and NATO requirements. The MILSAT Planning Manager will also support the wider Alliance Space Operations and Service Operations team, playing a key role in understanding customer needs, working across the business to develop solutions and deliver them rapidly so they meet expectations and can be supported. During mobilisation you will fulfil the role of Service Planning Support providing support to the Service Planning Lead throughout the transition period.

You will have wide experience across all aspects of the Skynet system and have considerable experience of the UK MOD planning functions. Responsibilities
  • Significant knowledge and experience of the Skynet 5 Planning systems and their usage
  • In depth understanding of Maritime, Land and Air communication requirements
  • Experienced in working across multiple systems and teams
  • Experience of crypto systems and their use
  • Knowledge of the Planning systems in use
  • Capable of obtaining (or already hold) security clearance (SC or higher) to work on UK Government projects
  • Have excellent collaboration, motivational, organisational, communication and team-working skills
  • Knowledge of Skynet 5 ground network and configuration related technology
  • Knowledge of how the Skynet system is managed and the associated networks and cyber defences for Military forces are integrated, deployed and used operationally
  • Ability to explain end user challenges to technical leads and managers/engineers and understand and shape the available technical solutions
  • Willingness to travel – UK and international
Key Responsibilities Are

As our MILSAT Planning Manager you will be responsible for:
  • Providing due diligence of the Skynet planning systems, Response to Stress and NATO and Allied planning processes and procedures
  • Provide Viasat and the Alliance with an understanding of the systems in use within the Skynet 5 network, their issues and assist in identifying solutions
  • Provide general support to the Viasat SDW team on all matters arising from planning constraints within the current system and support movement to alternative systems
  • Provide support to the Service Operations team on MILSAT and Comsat planning across the Skynet 5 ground segment
Requirements
  • 5+ years in UK MOD Planning teams
  • Knowledge of Skynet 5 Service Management Processes
  • Knowledge of the Skynet 5 operations processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of how the Skynet system is managed and the associated peer networks providing connectivity into the wider MOD network
  • Capable of obtaining (or already hold) security clearance (SC or higher) to work on UK Government projects
  • Have excellent collaboration, motivational, organisational, communication and team-working skills
  • Existing or demonstrable ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with the MOD, industry and military/government.
  • Ability to explain end user challenges to technical leads and engineers and understand and shape the available technical solutions
  • Willingness to travel – UK and international
Preferences
  • End user experience
  • Knowledge of and experience in Military/Commercial NOC activities
  • Knowledge of and experience in military scenario planning
These roles are operating out of Corsham but some traveling to our Farnborough office is required. Remote working is possible.
