We are seeking to appoint a Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer to join a forward-thinking Multi-Disciplinary Design & Build consultancy who work on exciting Commercial, Industrial & MOD projects across the UK!

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Building Services Design Engineer to take ownership of all aspects of mechanical building services design, ensuring excellence in technical, contractual, and administrative project execution.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Conduct detailed calculations for Ventilation, Heating, Domestic, Drainage, AC, Heat Loss/Heat Gains, and more.
  • Take ownership of all aspects of mechanical building services design, ensuring excellence in technical, contractual, and administrative project execution.
  • Perform thorough site surveys as needed.
  • Develop designs in accordance with relevant RIBA Stages.
  • Review and Produce detailed specifications and outline designs.
  • Facilitate and coordinate meetings with clients, specialists, and design teams to maintain efficient communication.
  • Uphold the company’s philosophy and contribute to its growth and reputation both internally and externally.
  • Enhance the company’s technical capabilities and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Be a focal point for the design and delivery of technically challenging projects within the team.
  • Effectively communicate critical project issues to Directors and clients in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate directly with clients as a client-facing mechanical design engineer, actively participating in design team meetings.
  • Demonstrate reliability by punctuality and timely completion of work before deadlines.
  • Collaborate closely with clients and other professionals throughout the project’s lifecycle.
  • Assume overall responsibility for project completion within established timelines.
  • Promote a "hands-on" and proactive approach within the team.
  • Play a key role in shaping the future development of the business.
  • Mentor junior team members and serve as a role model.

Key Skills & Experience Required

  • Proven experience in Mechanical Building Services Design, preferably from a Consultancy or Contractual background.
  • Experience in working on large building construction projects (£1-5M+).
  • Ability to translate conceptual designs in harmony with architectural and functional requirements.
  • Skilful control of technical design and cost elements, adhering to engineering standards and quality control procedures.
  • Natural design flair and confidence, inspiring innovative solutions among team members.
  • Proficiency in converting conceptual thinking into detailed design and construction documentation within budget and timeline constraints.
  • Capacity to work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong teamwork skills while also capable of working independently.
  • Awareness of the total design and delivery process, emphasizing an integrated approach.
  • Staying up-to-date with advancements in building design and building services technology.
  • Proficiency in Design Services, Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, Comfort Cooling, AutoCAD, REVIT, IES, DHW Systems, and Public Health Engineering.
  • Formal Qualifications to HNC/ ONC/ Degree in Mechanical Building Services and CIBSE Membership.
  • Possession of a full driver’s license and access to own vehicle for site visits.
  • Ability to manage design changes effectively.
  • Effective coordination and workload management within the project design team.
  • Ensure team efficiency and profitability through effective management.
  • Strategic thinking and proactive problem-solving skills.
