Applications are invited to join our growing team as a Market Strategist within the Biodiversity Intelligence Unit. We are looking for individuals that understand how biodiversity data can be used to inform business and policy decisions. Ideally you would bring experience working in or with a particular sector such as extractives, energy, agriculture, supply chains, water or policy. These are exciting roles within an innovative team, that aims to create new data solutions and develop new markets that will help drive biodiversity impact.

NatureMetrics is a technology company working at the cutting edge of molecular biodiversity monitoring and bringing high-throughput DNA sequencing technologies to the frontline of environmental management around the world. We have grown steadily in recent years and are now expanding rapidly. We are a team of bright, enthusiastic individuals who are excited to be breaking new ground and disrupting the world of biodiversity monitoring.

Each Market Strategist will focus on a particular group of clients within their area of expertise and will become an authority within the company on how our data products can lead to better biodiversity outcomes in these sectors. You will horizon-scan for upcoming opportunities, and work with some of our most important clients to explore and develop cutting edge R&D opportunities that have potential to be a commercial success. You will identify and capitalize on key opportunities to grow the market for our products by embedding our approaches into company and third-party standards along with government regulations.

You will be responsible for creating and guiding projects and will work with multi-stakeholder groups to engage with policy development on the topic of biodiversity monitoring at national and international levels. You will develop key strategic partnerships with collaborators along with current and future users of biodiversity data. You will help secure funding for our most ambitious projects.

Market Strategists will likely have experience in conservation, consultancy or sustainability roles within the sectors of interest, preferably developing strategic approaches to biodiversity. A background in eDNA/metabarcoding is not essential, but a scientific background and ability to understand and parse complicated concepts is an advantage. An expert communicator you will have a knack for adjusting your messaging for different audiences, and will be comfortable speaking to both coders and CEOs. You will be at ease acting at the interface between research and end-users and experience co-designing research projects is desirable. An ability to spot commercial opportunities that deliver for clients, biodiversity and our company will be key.

Sectors/areas of interest.

We are particularly interested in people with backgrounds in any of the following areas:

  • Extractives
  • Water
  • Renewable Energy
  • Nature Based Solutions
  • Supply Chains
  • Agriculture
  • Biodiversity Policy

You will be part of the Biodiversity Intelligence team, reporting to the Head of Team, and will work closely with the Product and Business Development teams. You will be comfortable working autonomously, and must demonstrate exceptional initiative, but ultimately need to thrive as part of a team. You will be expected to have excellent communication skills in order to discuss ideas and concepts with clients and NatureMetrics’ Leadership Team in an accessible way.

The full specification can be found below. To apply, please email careers@naturemetrics.co.uk including a CV and cover letter. There is no fixed deadline for applications, and the position will be held open until we find the right candidate.
