WHAT TO EXPECT

JLR has an opportunity for a high calibre and experienced Lead Manufacturing Engineer to join our Manufacturing Engineering - Powertrain Manufacturing Engineering (PTME) team.

The team oversees the development all future electric drive unit (EDU) product introduction for the complete range of JLR vehicles. You will be responsible for developing our new, technologically advanced power train assembly facilities that are currently under design and manufacture to support the JLR global powertrain initiatives.

The PTME department are responsible for the development and introduction of new and modified processes and facilities associated with new model introductions and model year changes, within Assembly & Test.

You will be a key part of the Assembly team, working closely with Product Development Engineers, Facility vendors and Tooling Suppliers to ensure that component and whole EDU designs meet world class quality and efficiency standards. PTME are looking for individuals who can bring experience of developing assembly systems in house and helping us define make vs buy opportunities/risks.

Key Responsibilities


  • Manage a team to plan, develop and implement new or retooled facilities for PTME from concept design to stable running production
  • Planning, developing and implementation of assembly and test processes and facilities
  • Provide feasibility statements for Product Development designs to suit manufacturing build requirements
  • Ensure robust process quality planning including build simulations and FMEA’s
  • Support virtual build events raising and championing issues where appropriate
  • Support of physical builds at workshop, pilot build and Manufacturing Plant locations, raising and managing issues where appropriate
  • Evaluate suitability of manufacturing technologies for a wide range of applications - i.e. manual check, 3D laser scan, vision system
  • Prepare, issue and evaluate supplier "Request for Quotations."
  • Develop assembly systems in house and helping us define make vs buy opportunities/risks
  • Assembly process & equipment verification at suppliers and at home manufacturing facility
  • Lead management activities through development and monitoring of timing plans
  • Lead new model planning through development of process estimates against study requests
  • Ensure adherence to company and departmental operating processes and policies
  • Manage technical issues, offering guidance to the team and escalating where appropriate
  • Represent PTME at program meetings and LMM at all levels and present where applicable
  • Co-ordinate the development and submission of departmental responses to product letters, PACNS etc
  • Ensure the team support and lead virtual build events, raising and managing issues where appropriate
  • Co-ordinate the support of physical builds at assembly plant locations, raising and managing issues where appropriate
  • Achieve Equipment Capability targets of all new & modified facilities, including Overall Production Rate (OPR), Mean Time To Repair (MTTR) and Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF)

WHAT YOU-LL NEED

Essential:
  • Strong IT skills in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word and Project) and ability to learn the following; Process Authoring Tools (GSPAS), Visualisation Mock Up, CATIA V6, Byteworx and Sciemetric Qualityworx
  • Knowledge, experience and understanding of assembly processes and equipment. Automated assembly and rundown cells, manual assembly workstations, in-process test equipment and ability to analyse and interpret performance data output from those facilities
  • Previous experience of facility Installation, commissioning and product Launch
  • Good Understanding of process capability & ability to use Minitab software
  • DC Tool programming and problem solving
  • An understanding of engineering including the ability to review engineering drawings
  • Project management experience in installation/commissioning programmes
  • Experience and working knowledge of Health and Safety Audits and ergonomics including risk assessments
  • Experience of managing multi skilled teams and projects to successful delivery
  • Experience of solving complex problems on product and facility issues
  • A clear understanding of part, assembly and system interaction which involves tolerances, variability, and methods of location and measurement

Desirable:
  • Knowledge and experience of PCDS (or similar) and LQOS deliverables and timing
  • Ideally understanding of JLR Facility Procurement and H&S procedures
  • Facility system validation and handover to Manufacturing
  • Fluent in Electrical and Mechanical machine drawings
