WHAT TO EXPECT


As Head of Quality, Compliance and Sustainability at JLR, you will be a member of the senior Global Customer Care Supply Chain Operations leadership team, reporting directly to the Global Parts Logistics Operations Director. You will drive the highest standards of physical quality in operations, ensure compliance with all relevant legislative and internal standards, and drive the sustainability agenda, working with Logistics Service Partners (LSPs) globally and internal JLR stakeholders.


Responsibilities extend to all international freight, domestic distribution, packing and warehouse operations, across 27 facilities in 17 countries.


You will lead a central team of seven FTE and interact extensively, through the global matrix structure, with the five regional Heads of Logistics Operations (LL5 roles), key senior stakeholders up to Enterprise leadership levels and external LSP leadership, often up to Board level.


Acting as the global custodian of a significant inventory, you will ensure minimal levels of stock loss, accurate accounting of inventory and compliance with all relevant internal / external accounting standards, thus driving maximum availability to customers and minimum financial loss to JLR. You will lead the drive to improve quality across the network, through incisive use of data, driving process improvement and implementing best in class and sustainable packaging design, all supporting the Modern Luxury client experience.


You will also take the lead on defining the global supply chain operations strategy to drive down environmental impact in all elements of logistics operations, delivering on JLR’s stated target to be net carbon neutral by 2039, aligning with relevant stakeholders across JLR.

THE ROLE

Key Responsibilities


  • Lead the global engagement with logistics service providers (warehouse, international and domestic transport, contract packing) to deliver better than industry standards of quality throughout the global supply chain operation, working actively with relevant stakeholders including Indirect Purchasing, Finance, global Heads of Logistics Operations and Regional Customer Service Directors.
  • Define the core global quality standards for all logistics activity, ensuring alignment with JLR corporate standards for parts & accessories, and ensure accurate measurement, reporting and review of these through a structured performance management process, taking ultimate accountability for the quality of the global logistics network.
  • Drive performance improvement through active collaboration with LSPs and support the Heads of Logistics Operations in specific operational improvement plans.
  • Collaborate across other logistics functions within JLR globally to harmonise quality strategies and quality management systems, maximising synergies and gaining the maximum leverage from JLR’s position in the market, whilst delivering on core aftermarket service and cost KPIs.
  • Shape the core global logistics packaging strategy in support of delivery the highest quality, Modern luxury service to the global client base.
  • Work with the global Heads of Logistics to define market specific requirements, ensuring complete transparency on operational scope and clear definition of requirements during and local logistics tender processes.
  • Shape the sustainability strategy for the global network through engagement with the regional Heads of Logistics and other relevant stakeholders such as Indirect Procurement, Aftermarket Purchasing and the manufacturing supply chain, build and subsequently deliver on sustainability targets, in line with JLR’s stated objective of being net carbon neutral by 2039.
  • Ensure all relevant contractual, fiscal and regulatory requirements are met in all markets to minimise inventory loss and maximise availability to customers.
  • Ensure relevant action plans, as necessary, are in place and co-ordinated with the relevant logistics service providers to drive and sustain improvements to better than benchmark levels.
  • Drive regional accountability and ownership of all inventory accuracy / loss metrics, quality standards, regulatory, compliance and sustainability targets through active engagement with the global supply chain operations teams.
  • Continually monitor the external environment to identify new regulatory and compliance requirements, defining the deficiencies, risks and needs; drive the necessary activities and continually monitor compliance throughout the global network.
  • Provide scenarios for structural changes and improvements to ensure supply chain quality including definition and operation of a global quality management system.
  • Accountable for the continuous monitoring, reporting, improvement, and optimization of all global and domestic stock, inventory accuracy, quality and sustainability targets, working closely with the respective Heads of Logistics Operations, with ultimate accountability for global performance standards.
  • Working closely with the International Supply Chain & Logistics Performance team and relevant Heads of Logistics Operations, drives regional accountabilities for all relevant metrics.
  • Owns all global quality, packaging, stock accuracy and sustainability processes within the global operating RACI.
  • Ensure a clear structure for operational escalations, coordination of problem resolution and troubleshooting for the global logistics network.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED


Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience


  • Successfully completed a degree in business administration or industrial engineering with a focus on logistics, supply chain, quality or another comparable discipline with significant professional experience.
  • Senior leadership experience in a complex logistics / supply chain environment of significant scale, likely to have been gained at Senior General Manager / Operations Director / Senior Purchasing Manager level within a comparable industrial or 3PL environment.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and analytical skills, including the ability to make fact based, data-driven decisions and considering multiple (and potentially competing) factors.
  • Proven experience in distilling complex topics into easily understandable narratives at senior / Board level for an audience that may not be experienced in the subject matter.
  • Extensive and proven experience in developing and subsequently driving quality improvements through a data driven, structured, global process.
  • Excellent project scoping and leadership skills.
  • Highly inquisitive – constantly scanning the internal and external environment to identify relevant best practice, drive improvements and build personal capability.
  • Excellent networking and influencing skills, able to demonstrate continuous and effective collaboration and communication across a wide group of stakeholders.
  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams in a matrix organization, ideally internationally.
  • A passion for moving tasks forward as well as taking full ownership of a project.


Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience


  • A recognised quality management qualification.
  • Experience of inventory accuracy and stock management techniques, including an understanding of accounting principles.
  • Experience of setting global standards and policies.
  • Involvement in development and implementation of packaging standards.
  • Understanding of the global sustainability agenda, the concept of Science Based Targets and tools to measure and subsequently drive down carbon impact.
