Job Title: Manufacturing Manager - Nightshift

Location: Johnstones Food Service, East Kilbride

Shift Patterm: Pitman Shift (Two week rotating shift pattern; Week 1: Monday, Tueday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday & Week 2: Wednesday, Thursday), Working 18:30-06:30

Contract: Permanent


Purpose of Job:

To lead the Nightshift Operation to effectively deliver an operationally excellent and efficient performance in line with Hamilton site business requirements. The effective leadership of both people and resources are crucial in achieving required levels of profitability, hygiene and performance delivery in addition to the management and discharge of safe practice within a factory environment


Key Result Areas:

  • Operational Efficiencies are delivered in line with budget
  • Team members are managed consistently and fairly , taking consistent action with poor performance and encouraging as well as recognising good performance
  • Ensure consistent product quality that complies with company standards and exceeds customer expectation
  • To meet the KPI targets both agreed and set with the Head of Operations
  • Continually review hygiene systems, methodology and delivery to improve standards across the site, developing and maintaining robust cleaning schedules to ensure all required cleaning activities are captured and continuously improved.
  • Green every day Audit & GMP compliance
  • Leading and lagging safety leadership performance – YoY Safety KPI improvement

The results should be delivered by:

  • Engaging, motivating and developing the Nightshift teams with particular reference to their direct reports.
  • working as a team with their peers in other functions

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Ability to effectively lead and engage the unit teams through change management programmes.
  • To manage, develop and lead the Nightshift Operations Team
  • To lead and develop an efficient manufacturing operation in line with the site plan and key business performance indicators.
  • To ensure the unit complies with company and legal standards (safety, quality, hygiene, environment, security).
  • Delivers the Operational strategy and Nightshift plan and uses their team to ensure continuous improvement activity is in place to drive year on year improvements.
  • Full duty holder status for Nightshift Operations including Lead Incident control

People:

  • Demonstrate visible leadership for the Nightshift teams.
  • Lead and line manage a team of Operational direct reports (organise, motivate, communicate, set objectives, review performance, etc.).
  • Create an empowering culture and develop a plan to improve employee engagement for their team and the total unit in alignment with the site Operation Managers.
  • Work with the Operation, Technical and Engineering Managers to ensure a culture of continuous improvement becomes commonplace
  • Build effective and high performing teams across the unit.
  • Encourage teamwork and an inclusive environment so that all employees in the operational unit are treated fairly and consistently.
  • Review Nightshift Team competency and ensure appropriate training and development plans are in place to meet both individual and business needs.
  • Owns and reviews area organisation structure and headcount standards, ensuring appropriate succession plans, recruitment and development plans are in place.
  • Regularly review working practises, developing a personal knowledge of the Company’s product range and production issues in order to facilitate more flexible working and labour optimisation, including new shift patterns and scheduling as well as understanding and ownership of the Operational issues.

Functional / Operational Excellence:

  • Ensures total area compliance with all applicable corporate and legal standards (personal safety, food safety, quality, hygiene, environment and security).
  • To lead product quality delivery for the area in line with a product improvement strategy.
  • Ensure the area teams deliver their output targets versus base level information in efficiency.
  • Ensure the area delivery of the KPIs to achieve the site business plan (safety, quality, service, cost, people and projects).
  • Ensure a commitment to continuous improvement across the area to make year on year improvements versus plans and targets.
  • Ensures accurate performance reporting across the area for all measures required (site targets, KPI’s, team performance, etc.).
  • Good working knowledge of Finsbury Foods HR Policies and processes (Performance mgmt., conduct, disciplinary, grievance, attendance, etc.).

Principal Challenges/Key Features:

  • Leading in a fast moving and constantly changing environment, balancing the demands of customers, management and staff.
  • Leadership of Nightshift managers and functional leads, responsible for the full range of line management activities including, training, manager’s development, discipline, communications, absence control, team leadership, motivation and succession planning, materials, direct labour and Overheads within budget.
  • Achieving and beating KPI’s and provision of accurate information within agree timescales to support this for effective decision making.
  • Evolving the Operations unit, developing and managing a continuous improvement culture and techniques. Enhancing the use of modern technology and justify capital Investment requests
  • Provides Leadership in a manner that fosters good health & safety practise and sets an example to others.

Technical or Special Knowledge, Experience or Training:

Essential:

  • Experienced in managing people.
  • Exposure to continuous and batch process FMCG environment.
  • Can demonstrate a sound understanding of the manufacturing processes.
  • Previous experience of Supermarket multiples.
  • Numerate with ability to understand how to make improvements which influence company profitability.
  • Understanding of P&L to gross margin level.
  • Educated to at least HND or equivalent in a Business subject.

Desirable:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a Business or production/manufacturing subject.
  • Previous experience of the cake or confectionary processing/manufacturing industry.

Any Other Requirements:

  • Must have flexible approach to work, be able to work on own initiative and be a confident decision maker, able to communicate at all levels of the organisation.
