We are proud to be playing a critical role in the net zero transition, as we aim to more than treble the net capacity in operation to 13GW and grow renewable energy output five-fold to over 50TWh over the next 10 years.About The RoleThe Lifting Operations Engineer will provide embedded focused Engineering support to the Offshore Wind teams to ensure that lifting equipment and lifting operations are managed safely and effectively during both routine maintenance and defect resolution activities.Base Location: Flexible, however our preference is that you will be based in one of our key UK or Ireland sites, which includes but is not limited to:- Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen, Inverness, Lowestoft, Reading, Havant, Belfast or Dublin.Salary: £37,600 - £56,400 + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available- Act as primary lifting operations expert for SSE’s offshore wind operational portfolio, authoring standard lift plans and bespoke requirements as requested.
- Support major rectification projects with specific support, including conducting lifting operations audits. Provide in-house user training and coaching on lifting equipment usage, maintenance and management, leading interaction with equipment OEMs for training and spare parts.
- Support on interaction with statutory inspection contractors, support SSE Operations’ in-house maintenance of lifting equipment and application of SSE risk-based inspection schemes.
- Contributing to Asset Integrity Engineering’s input into the design delivery process, ensuring required lifting operations and risk factors are fully understood and designed to be carried out safely. Support the development of rescue response scenarios as part of Emergency Response Plans and ensure scenarios are drilled.
- Support the Contractor Safety and Performance work stream, ensuring that SSE’s supply chain have suitable issued documentation to carry out their work safely. Contribute to the Process and Access Safety working group, specifically championing lifting operations as a safe system of work.
- Previous experience within an offshore or renewables generation industry would be an advantage, although not essential. You’ll be qualified to HNC (or equivalent) level in a relevant engineering discipline, however as the position requires knowledge and experience gained within industry, consideration will be given to suitably experienced individuals.
- You’ll have knowledge and practical experience of working within a controlled safety environment together with a working experience of management projects under established safe systems of work.
- A demonstrable background with practical experience conducting and contributing to lifting operations would be essential, preferably with experience of an Appointed Person role and strong working knowledge of the application of LOLER legislation.
- The successful candidate will have a good understanding of maintenance requirements for large plant infrastructure and the importance of a planned and coordinated maintenance strategy; an awareness of coating applications and non-destructive testing techniques is deemed advantageous.
- You will have the opportunity to develop your understanding of offshore wind operations and maintenance works, with the ability to audit and observe both on and offshore working parties and act as an SSE safety representative ensuring that key organisational objectives are met.
