About the job
As a Legal Officer, you will be required to provide high quality legal advice to the Council in relation to contract matters including procurement and frameworks.
Working in legal services at Leicester City Council offers you a breadth of legal experience that you simply won’t find anywhere else. The council is a huge organisation with complex policies, and it operates in a highly regulated environment. This means we work on a full range of high-quality cases and often deal with £multi-million contracts.
Your role
As a legal officer you’ll act on behalf of the Council – this may be by way of appearing as advocate on behalf of the Council, having conduct of protective processes, conducting negotiations, making disclosures etc. Undertaking full range of legal advice in assigned discipline to meet corporate priorities you’ll provide functional legal input (research, drafting) in assigned discipline at a level appropriate to the post.
In addition, you’ll oversee and assist paralegal and administrative staff within the team . Demonstrating an understanding and application of the Council’s governance requirements, together with general public law principles.
What you’ll need
Joining the team you’ll need to be able to work under pressure, organising and carrying on caseload to meet set objectives and targets. Having a flexible and adaptable approach to work pressures to ensure you are meeting service needs by successfully working to deadlines and prioritising workload.
Having the opportunity to with clients and other external agencies, you’ll represent the service in a professional and positive manner. Using your research and analytical skills as well as I.T. skills, including proficiency in the use of Word and case management systems to excel in the role.
