To ensure continuous provision of safe, effective, high quality integrated neonatal family care services including community home care, family support, low dependency, bereavement and infant feeding, across two sites. The role is pivotal in ensuring that services within NUH work seamlessly and effectively as well as working across organisational boundaries in relation to the neonatal home care service in the Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Lincolnshire region while reviewing patient pathways, facilitating early discharge of patients and developing and supporting satellite services where required.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting time to join Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) and be part of our neonatal senior nursing team. We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic and motivated nurse to join us to take up the post of Lead Nurse for Neonatal Home Care and Family Care covering maternity leave. This role will overarch the clinical areas of neonatal home care, family support, bereavement support, low dependency and discharge.

The post holder will be a key member of the business unit’s senior nursing team. Together with the specialty leads and the matron, the post holder will be responsible for the delivery of safe, effective high quality care across the areas. Following the creation of an EMNODN wide home care service, the post holder will support and enhance existing outreach teams in the North East Midlands region to plan care, promote safe early discharge and transition patients from the neonatal unit to home.

You must be an experienced nurse, with outstanding leadership skills to motivate and lead the teams in your portfolio. You should demonstrate excellent communication and the ability to manage conflicting demands. You will work within the neonatal service senior nursing team to effectively bring change through engagement with staff within NUH and other organisations within the region.

The post holder will be a proven change agent who provides expert identification, assessment, treatment and management within the scope of neonatal family care and outreach using complex communication skills, judgement, discretion and decision making.


Person specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria
    • Registered Nurse RGN/RSCN with regulatory body (NMC)
    • Post registration qualification in speciality of neonates (ENB405 /QIS)
    • Recognised teaching and assessors qualification/course
    • Masters Level qualification in nursing/health related subject
    • Evidence of continued professional development
    • Advanced neonatal life support (NLS) provider
    • Management or leadership programme/qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
    • Experience of establishing and leading multidisciplinary/professional teams in service improvements
    • Demonstrate experience of working with the management of neonatal care and the healthcare needs of babies and families
    • Knowledge of neonatal family care and outreach service function
    • Understanding of current issues in neonatal healthcare including discharge planning and community care
