ABOUT THE ROLE

  • You will lead on the provision of cyber and information security advice and guidance, supporting and enabling the Force to achieve its objectives whilst minimising its information security risk exposure.
  • You will be a senior leader working in a dynamic environment within our Digital, Data and Technology command, leading on the provision of advice on data and information Security IT requirements at the point of commissioning and procurement of new technologies, supporting innovation and efficiency and drive a security by design approach.
  • You will lead on the identification, development implementation of protective security controls including, technical, physical processes, policies and procedures. Ensuring the Force’s data and information activities are performed in a secure manner that balances risk with business requirements.
  • You will be a visible leader supporting the strategic direction of the Force by leading on initiatives to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of Force assets providing a defence in depth approach. Drive compliance, leading on the provision of training, awareness and advice to staff, officers and partners as appropriate.
  • You will provide explanations, assessments and information to senior leaders including the Deputy Chief Constable in their role as SIRO, preparing and presenting both written and verbal reports. You will have the ability to convey technical security risk in business language, articulating the real impact to the business on security risks.
  • You will be part of the senior management team within Information Management and support colleagues to deliver on all aspects of information management providing a collective approach to problem solving.

Who We Are Looking For?

The successful candidate should possess a relevant information security qualification or minimum Level 5 qualification in a related discipline plus at least 3 years relevant professional experience e.g. Information Security Management, ideally within a large organisation is also required along with at least 1 year’s management experience.
Someone with a proven track record of effective decision making, a logical thinker with excellent problem solving qualities.
Excellent literacy skills required to compose documentation such as strategic reports and policies.

VETTING

Durham Constabulary has a strict vetting requirement and any offer of employment will be subject to appropriate vetting levels which will be maintained / updated throughout the period of service. In addition, applicants should have been a UK resident for at least 3 years prior to the date of application. However in the event that applicants have not been resident in the UK for at least 3 years and can provide a VERIFIABLE certificate from the Police of any country where they have taken temporary residence to indicate that they have not been convicted of any offence whilst in that country or involved in any investigation by a Law Enforcement Agency which includes being interviewed, arrested, issued with any penalty notice, charged or cautioned irrespective of whether that offence is an offence within the United Kingdom, then this will be considered as part of the recruitment vetting process. Individuals who are not able to meet this criteria will be subject to appropriate risk assessment by the Force Counter Corruption and Vetting Unit.

REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications:
Relevant Information Security Qualification e.g. Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)

Desirable: Membership of an appropriate professional body such as the Institute of Information Security Professional or you would be expected to achieve this within the first 12 months

Work Experience:
At least 3 years relevant professional experience e.g. Management and Practice of Information Security, ideally within a large organisation.
At least 1 year’s management experience.

HOURS
37 hours per week, from Monday to Friday, however as a senior member of staff you will have a wider commitment than this. The flexible working hour’s scheme is applicable.

SALARY
£50,000 per annum
Substantive Grade Principal Officer 2 £42,783 - £45,996 per annum plus a market forces supplement to £50,000 for a period of 2 years.
