Changing demographics, rising demand, technological innovation, and continual drives for efficient and effective services are key drivers to improving the quality of service provision, whilst streamlining the way in which services are delivered.

Four provider organisations in L&SC have committed to form a network and collaborate on pathology services, including , Blackpool Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. The intention is to form one pathology entity which will be hosted by one of the existing provider organisations.

You will provide day-to-day operational management of the Blood Transfusion Laboratory and Chorley Laboratory. You will also be Quality Lead, responsible for the maintenance of Quality in line with MHRA and UKAS standards. This includes allocating staff duties and lead BMS training & development within Blood Transfusion Laboratory.

This role is pivotal to help shape the future of Blood Transfusion services within the region. We are looking to recruit someone who will develop and manage the service going forward.

You will need to demonstrate a track record of strong interpersonal skills and be able to influence and motivate others with the ability to successfully guide people through complex change. Being able to think innovatively and to communicate effectively with a wide range of staff across departments is essential.

As a Lead BMS you will oversee the operation and development of the Blood Transfusion laboratory service that currently has IH1000 equipment with remote blood fridges across both sites. You will be expected to cover in the absence of the Lead BMS for the Haematology Laboratory.

The department is accredited by UKAS to ISO 15189

The appointment will be to Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, however candidates should be aware that Lancashire Teaching Hospitals is part of a pathology collaboration project.
