Job Overview

To provide an efficient and comprehensive sewing/linen service to all wards, departments and staff within the Trust. Ensuring that agreed quality standards are achieved and maintained.

The post-holder will demonstrate a consistently high standard of professionalism and must be able to work as part of a team or on their own to deliver the service.

Main duties of the job

Your day to day role will be assisting with all associated duties connected with the provision of a uniform service to members of staff, measuring altering and delivering were necessary. The daily delivery of linen in a timely and customer-focused manner including unpacking and shelving items.

You will also act at all times in a manner that upholds the Trust’s values, working as part of a team to ensure efficiency and excellent customer care.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

Communicate effectively with colleagues to ensure an accurate exchange of information about needs of the sewing/ linen service department.

Support new colleagues within the team to develop their skills and with site orientation to enable them to undertake their role.

Communicate with a range of clinical and non-clinical staff over the telephone and face to face as required to understand individual needs and provide information relating to the sewing / linen service

Undertake all duties relating to sewing/ linen service, including:-
  • To check and accurately record that all incoming orders corresponds with the delivery notes and quality standards are being maintained.
  • Notifying the Linen Services Supervisor/Manager/ Contractor of discrepancies and articles for return as necessary as per departmental procedures.
  • To sub-sort the linen according to end user requirements and load it onto trolleys/cages or bags for delivery.
  • Recording accurately both written and electronically quantities for recovery of expenditure.
  • Daily delivery of sewing/linen in a timely and customer-focused manner including unpacking and shelving items.
  • Assist in the monitoring and audit process of standards of uniforms/linen through sampling, surveying, linen stock counts and discussions in a through and accurate manner
  • Assisting in the provision of a uniform service to members of staff, measuring and delivering were necessary.
  • Repair and make alterations to Trust’s own linen and uniform’s. Manufactures were necessary items unique to the Trust that are needed for Patient care.
  • Pro-actively support the continued improvement of linen services.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • Functional skills in written English and Maths.


Desirable criteria
  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
  • Sewing Qualification


Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Good understanding of work within hospital sewing room
  • Experience of using an industrial sewing machine
  • Understanding of Health and Safety / Moving and Handling.
  • Awareness of Quality Control
  • Confidence in own experience


Desirable criteria
  • Previous/recent employment involving sewing or alteration
  • Previous recent experience involving customer service/Quality Control
