LAS Junior Doctor in Orthogeriatrics

Grade: FY2 Level

On-call: Out of Hours commitment is applicable

Contract: 12 months fixed term contract

Applications are invited for the LAS Junior Doctor in Orthogeriatrics.

This post is vacant from 3rd August 2022 – 1st August 2023.

This post provides ideal generic Foundation experience with exposure to Trauma, General Surgery, ED Medicine, Acute Medicine, Geratology and Anaesthetics. There is an opportunity to attend theatre and develop a surgical logbook.

The post holder will rotate on a six weekly basis through Trauma ward at the Horton site and Acute Surgical Assessment Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital. Out of hours work will be undertaken at the Horton site where the Trust’s award winning Hip Fracture service is based.

All previous post holders including LAS posts have successfully progressed to FY2 training posts.

Applicants must be fully registered with a licence to practice with the UK General Medical Council.

Principal Responsibilities

Perioperative assessment and care of all trauma patients > 50 years old.

Geriatric care including working with the multidisciplinary team to provide fast-stream rehabilitation and complex discharge planning.

Involvement in Fracture Neck of Femur Audit and service development.

Daily Commitment

The post-holder will be responsible for the day to day care of all trauma patients > 50 years old. This will include medical assessment of pre-op patients, post-op reviews and daily documented ward rounds.

There will be daily support at FY2, Middle Grade and Consultant level.

They will also be required to undertake elements of the Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment including falls, bone health, cognition and discharge planning.

They will work closely with the FY2 ward doctor but it is expected that day to day tasks including requesting tests, chasing results, rewriting charts and completing electronic discharge summaries will be split equally between you.
