Laboratory Manager

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

The primary purpose of this role is to manage and oversee Biotech laboratories located at Milton Park ensuring that they are maintained and operated both safely & efficiently.

• Review, improve, and maintain laboratory standards and compliance to relevant standards across the building through the user groups. Work with the user groups to ensure equipment availability in maximized and is appropriately utilized.
• Act as a liaison between Engineering / Facilities team and the end user groups to enable building maintenance and repairs to be undertaken appropriately, i.e., shared coordination of building / laboratory shutdowns.
• Provide technical expertise and hold the Responsible person role for equipment where required / appropriate

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Improving, and maintaining laboratory operational standards (housekeeping, equipment cleaning, etc.) through the end user groups.
• Host lab steering committee and provide governance over the laboratory operational standards.
• Oversea and organizes in conjunction with Engineering via the appropriate team; repairs, maintenance and calibration of equipment including statutory inspections.
• Ensuring laboratory waste stream are efficiently managed to reduce environmental impact and minimize business operational costs.
• Reviewing and implementing contamination control strategies to reduce the risk to processes across the whole facility.
• Facilitates interactions between the ENG / FAC / EHS function and Laboratory end users to ensure building / fixed system maintenance and repairs are able to be undertaken at the correct intervals.
• Operates as the key stakeholder in relation to laboratory Capital Expenditure (Laboratory refit projects through to equipment purchases).
• Owning and driving equipment maintenance and repairs.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required

• Experience or equivalent in a CL2 environment in a supervisory or management role over process or team.
• Experience or demonstrable knowledge of laboratory store inventory management.
• Experience of supervising or managing teams or processes.
• Experience of managing, supervising or working as part of a team at a strategic level on Laboratory related projects; i.e.; Lab refits, Lab footprint utilisation, Lab expansion, etc.
• Experience managing or supervising laboratories.

Desirable

• Previous experience working in a multi discipline team (ENG, FAC, Asset Maintenance, Etc.) with the requirement of cross cover workloads on an adhoc basis.
• Experience of working in CL3 Laboratories.
• Experience in a GLP environment in a supervisory or management role.
• Experience and demonstrable knowledge of aseptic technique / practises.
• Experience troubleshooting analytical instrumentation.
