This post is for a Junior Clinical Fellow in Urology. This is a whole time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals.

Applicants must be eligible for full Registration with the GMC at time of appointment.

The Junior Clinical Fellow will undertake elective work in Urology. The successful candidate will have ample opportunity in elective activity, operative and diagnostic. The Junior Clinical Fellow will work with more than one consultant.

The successful candidate will be expected to have full GMC registration at the time of appointment. Candidates without GMC will progress if shortlisted for interview; though will be expected to have full GMC registration at the time of appointment.

Main duties of the job

The Junior Clinical Fellow in Urology will be expected to:

Contribute to the care of both out-patients and in-patients.
Participate in the urology middle grade on call rota.
Help to supervise the work of the FY2 and FY1.
Help with emergency work.
Assist in the compilation and organization audit sessions at Whiston Hospital.
Deputize during the day time for absent colleagues.
Assist with duties outside those normally roistered but which are judged to be essential for patient care, under exceptional circumstances.
Study leave will be granted for attendance at conferences and courses subject to the needs of the service.
The post holder will be expected to undertake administrative work as directed by the consultant urological surgeon.

General Duties of All Employees


  • To observe the provisions of and adhere to all Trust policies and procedures.
  • To actively participate in annual performance review to identify personal development needs.
  • To attend Trust Statutory and Mandatory training sessions as required and any other training courses relevant to the post.
  • To fully comply with the relevant sections of the Health and Safety at Work Act.   • To be aware of the confidential aspects of the post. Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GMC Full Registration and hold current licence to practise
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • ATLS, Basic Surgical Skills, CCrisP
Desirable criteria
  • MRCS or Equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 3-4 years’ experience in general urology
  • Experienced and competent in elective and non-elective General Urology
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in audit management
  • Experience of teaching basic clinic skills to undergraduates

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Experience in manging basic elective and non-elective general urology
  • Ability to organise and manage clinical priorities.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in research and audit.
  • Evidence of research experience

Other

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Good interpersonal skills and caring attitude to patients
  • Commitment to continuing medical education
Desirable criteria
  • Publications in referred journals
