Instrument Technician – build and manufacture : Workington, Cumbria

MacArthur Recruitment is seeking somebody as soon as is practical, with experience and qualifications in Industrial electrical installation and commissioning to work as an Instrument Technician, within build and manufacture, for our client in Workington. This is a permanent role, with the real possibility of career development and progress.

The role is with a leading UK based engineering company in West Cumbria. Working in a team of four and within the build and manufacture team, this is an opportunity for you to develop your skills and career with this forward-thinking company. Hands-on role, manufacturing from design, working with the Electrical Designer.

Main Purpose of the position of Instrument Technician – build and manufacture :

The main purpose of this role is to work with the electrical design team to build and manufacture, off drawings, customer equipment to specification, including installation and commissioning on the customer site.

Person Specification, experience and qualifications for the role of Instrument Technician – build and manufacture :
  • Industrial electrical installation and commissioning
  • Carry out electrical control panel manufacturing from layout and schematic drawings, wiring DC and AC electrical motors (Star and Delta), earth loop impedance testing, insulation resistance testing, polarity and continuity testing.
  • City and Guilds 2382 (mandatory)
  • Experience working in heavy engineering / manufacturing
  • Knowledge of low voltage – up to 1000 volts
  • Have good technical fault-finding attributes
  • Flexibility to work shifts and overtime when required.
  • Read electrical drawings, assess the parts needed for a job and assist electrical engineer to place order.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical problems in commercial electrical systems, including fault finding, rewiring, monitoring, conduct routine maintenance and testing on electrical systems.
  • Install electrical systems to BS7671 (18th Edition) wiring regulations.
