Job Description

Wise Employment have a rare and fantastic opportunity for a Housing Officer to join their client within a local authority, on a long term (maternity cover) basis until March 2024. Immediate start! £30,000 - £34,723 DOE.

Full time, 37hrs/ week, based at the Council. Driving licence required.

Duties

Reporting directly to the Temporary Accommodation Lead, the key purpose of this role will be to undertake and lead on operational housing management and support duties in the Council’s owned Second Stage Temporary Accommodation for rough sleepers, to include tenancy sign ups and inductions.

As a Housing Offier, you will act as the primary point of contact for the residents of properties purchased under the Next Steps Accommodation Programme (NSAP) and Rough Sleeping Accommodation Programme (RSAP).

You will attend sign up meetings (or arrange with third party providers) with clients moving into NSAP accommodation, ensuring there is a clear understanding of the responsibilities of their tenancy / license and that any specific accommodation rules are understood.

You will build a pro-active relationship with tenants and external agencies, to provide support to the tenants to ensure that they are able to maintain their tenancies.

Support may include the following activities:
Budgeting
Help with addictions
Engaging with health agencies
Accessing financial assistance
Accessing education
Training and employment

You will manage enforcement activities for clients, with support from the Temporary Accommodation Lead and Legal Services, where tenancy breaches or rent arrears warrant such action. This will include maintaining clear records, issuing warnings, serving notices and acting as a witness in court.

You will also inspect all Council owned NSAP & RSAP properties and neighbourhoods on a regular basis in order to ensure there is a thorough understanding of our customers and assets and to act upon any issues arising from these inspections

Requirements

As a Housing Officer, you will be an enthusiastic and motivated individual to provide support to tenants and take the operational lead for the NSAP and RSAP programmes.

You will have experience of delivering a comprehensive housing management service (ideally for a minimum of 3 years) with a social landlord and demonstrable knowledge of the key challenges involved in this work.

You will have an in-depth working knowledge of the Housing Act 1996 part VII, as well as an in-depth knowledge of law relating to landlord and tenant issues and general housing rights.

Experience of, and commitment to resident involvement and previous experience in managing reports of Anti-social behaviour.

A driving licence will be essential for this role.
