The key tasks of the Higher Specialist Instructional Officer (HSIO) are as follows:
  • Training Delivery. Deliver training in compliance with Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT), Specialist Instructional Officers (SIO) Management Practices Document (MPD) and Defence Train the Trainer (DTtT).
  • Training Delivery. Maintain a safe training environment conducive to learning in compliance with SIO MPD and Defence School Communications and Information Systems (DSCIS) Management Practices (MP) documentation MP 7.
  • Training Delivery. Maintain own Subject Matter Expertise, undertake Continuous Professional Development as directed, in compliance with MOD Civil Service policy, SIO MPD and DSCIS MP’s.
  • Training Delivery Management. Manage and monitor training delivery in accordance with the Defence Trainer Supervisor framework, in accordance with JSP 822.
  • Training Delivery Resource Management. Manage and allocate training delivery resources (Instructor resource and training resource) to training task.
  • Training management. The HSIO Training Operations is responsible to the SSIO 11th (RSS) Sig Regt Trg Ops for the effective management of all training operations under their area of responsibility. Ensuring that all training complies with the DSAT QS.
  • Training Quality Assurance. Contribute to maintenance of training delivery quality through Course Review Working Groups, in accordance with JSP 822, DSAT, SIO MPD and DSCIS MP.
  • Training Quality Assurance. Maintain integrity of training documentation, manage the maintenance of Training Delivery Documentation; training Methods and Media inclusive of training aides in accordance with Protective Marking descriptor. Ensure control, accountability and safekeeping of cryptographic and protectively marked material and equipment used for instruction. in accordance with DSAT process and DSCIS MP.
  • Training Quality Assurance. Maintain training delivery standard; supervise and monitor training delivery subject matter content and instructor/teaching practice in accordance with JSP 822, DSAT QS, DCTT TQP and Defence Trainer Supervision Framework.
  • Training Quality Assurance. Contribute to training delivery quality assurance audits and Internal Validation in accordance with JSP 822, Civil Service Core Competencies, SIO MPD and DSCIS MP’s.
  • Training Administration. Contribute to the administration of Training Delivery in accordance with DSAT, DCTT TQP and DSCIS MP.
Responsibilities

Responsible for the delivery of IT, ICT and CIS technical training. In particular Computer Sciences, Data Literacy/ Applications exploitation and programming languages using modern teaching methods including technology enhanced learning methodologies, both in the classroom and through distance learning. Responsible for leading and initial development including continuing professional development of a small team of technical trainers.
