The mission of UK Export Finance (UKEF) is to ensure that no viable UK export fails for want of finance or insurance from the private sector.
The marketing and communications team plays a vital role in building the organisation’s awareness and reputation among audiences within and outside of Government, in the UK and overseas. The team does this through a range of complementary specialisms, all of which work to four core communications competencies: insight, ideas, implementation and impact.

About the Role

The Head of Digital will apply best practice communications insight, ideas, implementation and impact assessment to lead and implement a digital communications strategy to engage target audiences, raise awareness and generate leads.
They will use of and advise on relevant online media channels, search engine optimisation and spend in support of UKEF’s departmental communications objectives. Leading a complex web presence transformation programme to significantly improve the digital customer journey.
Highly creative and innovative, this role will commission and create all digital creative and content for UKEF channels, delivering at pace and be responsible to delivering value for money and managing a budget.
Identify suitable tools and KPIs for measuring and tracking performance and report on digital communications to UKEF M&C SLT and ExCo, and conduct detailed audience mapping and insight.
Work with DIT, other government departments and external stakeholders and partners to identify opportunities to amplify UKEF message, and plan and deliver seamless campaigns across a range of issues and audiences.

This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced digital communications professional to work on fast-paced digital content, managing high profile social media channels and websites.

They will need to be able to come up with creative ways of producing and curating content, whilst exercising excellent judgement and the ability to make important and high-impact decisions.

A highly skilled Head, the will ideally have experience of working within a busy communications team or similarly fast-paced environment and experience advising senior leaders (ExCo) on digital communications as a trusted advisor.

Ability to manage multiple urgent priorities, whilst working on longer-term projects. You will be open in your communication and able to communicate clearly with senior stakeholders.

Organised, attentive to detail, able to play a key leadership role for a high-performing team and be comfortable working with senior stakeholders. The successful candidate will also be required to produce high quality written and visual digital communications within very short timescales, including case studies, news, images, videos, social media posts and web content. You will also be comfortable managing web platforms and content and working with partners to keep our websites up to date and to high standard.

They will understand trends within digital and be able to use data to tell stories and evaluate the performance of content and build content strategies. You will be able to grasp complex technical issues and make them understandable to non-technical audiences. You will have outstanding written and verbal communications skills and experience in digital and social communications or a related communications discipline, working in a communications role in the public or financial services sector.

Responsibilities

Main Activities

  • Developing and delivering digital marketing and communications strategy for UKEF, reporting to the Head of Marketing and Communications
  • Lead a complex web presence transformation project to re-shape our websites, and create a seamless customer journey across our websites and other government sites, working to Government guidelines,
including accessibility
  • Lead search engine optimisation strategy and delivery to generate leads
  • Lead ongoing updates and changes to our websites and publishing of information
  • Lead UKEF’s social media strategy, using world leading approaches to identifying and targeting influencers, amplifying UKEF messages, building our narrative, reaching media and other key stakeholders, and
sharing
content across wider government and partners
  • Lead digital analytics, setting clear KPIs and metrics, selecting and deploying tracking tools, and reporting on performance
  • Team management of 2 individuals in the digital and content team

Work with external stakeholders to Lead on delivering content plans for digital communications around UKEF events

  • Understand media relations and the role of digital channels in managing news announcements and building plans across the M&C team and activity

  • Expert on social media channels and think creatively about where digital is going next, with a strong understanding of current trends and the direction of travel for digital

  • Represent the team to seniors, being able to communicate plans to senior stakeholders and acting as a credible voice for the team

  • Have the ability to produce or create innovative creative content including, video (including live video) and graphic design

  • Have a solid understanding of GOV.UK, with the ability to manage high profile and complex publishing at short notice

  • Draw on audience insight to develop innovative internal communication strategies, selecting the most appropriate channel mix and ensuring content is both topical and timely.

  • Build good relationships with stakeholders including digital platforms, Government Digital Service and other government departments
