MB436: Head of Business DevelopmentLocation: Andover with occasional UK travelSalary: 90,000 - 100,000Working Hours: Monday to FridayOverview:First Military Recruitment is proudly working in partnership with a fantastic business who are looking to recruit a Head of Business Development on a permanent basis to predominantly be based in Andover but with occasional UK wide travel.Duties and Responsibilities:
  • The Head of Business Development (HoBD) aligned to our Equipment Sector Business Unit. The position will work with a team of Business Development (BD) and Business Winning
  • professionals reporting to the VP Future Business.
  • The role is aligned to the Equipment Business Unit and in this capacity the position will additionally work with the Business Unit MD and their senior management team
  • The individual will be responsible for development of the pipeline of opportunities to support the business growth ambitions in alignment with the Sector growth strategy and the
  • Business Unit. They will plan and lead BD activities, either for specific products and services or by joining them together for cross-business campaigns.
  • It is expected that the successful candidate will have and further develop a develop a deep pan DLOD understanding of customer requirements, their procurement plans and the competitive market. This is to be achieved through the growth of strong, relationships with customers, end users and industry stakeholders; supporting in the development of well defined growth strategies and identification and qualification of new business opportunities.
  • Collaborating across Operational teams, understanding existing capability, the connection to account growth
  • Responsible for collaborating across the BU Operational teams to ensure a full understanding of existing capability, whilst equally being cogniscent of account growth opportunities.
  • The collaborative behaviours and customer understanding this role will bring is critical to helping create a clear and compelling win strategy and value proposition for each opportunity, including: understanding key stakeholder needs, discriminators, identifying partner options, competitor analysis, stakeholder maps, customer budgets, procurement status and timings and capture milestones.
  • As well as being instrumental in guiding and developing business, the individual in the role is expected to act as a positive ambassador for the business in all contact with the market. Whilst the role is UK focused, there may be a requirement to support international opportunities as the business develops.
  • Plan and lead BD activities to position the business as a thought leader in the market place.
  • Develop and maintain senior relationships with the major target clients, positioning the business as a strategic potential supplier.
  • Responsible for the creation, identification, qualification and development of the pipeline of opportunities in support the Business growth ambition, the Sector growth strategy, and Business Unit plans.
  • Work with the Business Winning team and senior management in the pursuit and shaping of campaigns to ensure differentiated propositions that deliver the required value to stakeholders.
  • Work with multiple internal operational and functional stakeholders to develop innovative campaigns that competitively position the business to secure growth opportunities.
  • Support strategic development of opportunities that best match business strengths and provide optimum outcomes for the defence customers.
Skills And Qualifications
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • Complete understanding of the Equipment Domain and the wider UK Defence ecosystem.
  • Extensive knowledge of Government business development, contract awards, current procurement trends and customer buying behaviours.
  • Proven experience of collaboratively creating compelling messaging.
  • Excellent inter-personal, presentation and verbal skills.
  • Client and Industry stakeholder engagement experience.
  • An understanding of the process of bidding, or a willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrable experience of working within large, complex programmes.
  • An extensive and established network within military.
  • Clearance to Start BPSS.
  • Clearance for Role SC minimum.
