Main Responsibilities:
You will work within a team of Garment Technologists which will be working on styles and own them from proto type through to delivery of the finished product into stores. This role will focus on understanding and interpreting the Designer’s sketches/details and developing with them and your supplier beautiful, high quality and relevant product.
Key to your role will be the interest to explore and study new trends to adjust your interpretation and delivery.
Technical Skills
  • You need the knowledge and ability to confidently fit garments on the body accompanied with the organizational skills to ensure the time line required by the company Critical Path is achieved
  • To manage and flex the process by which the high quality of make and fit is achieved to the standards required by Ted Baker
  • Sound technical knowledge to determine whether a garment fits appropriately for the Ted Baker customer
  • Ability to very clearly communicate to suppliers and team members on how to fix fit or make issues by applying your technical knowledge
  • You will be required to work on your own product areas
  • You will be responsible for ensuring that garment construction methods are maintained to a high standard on your product
  • To execute continual assessment of quality and make of the product you work on
  • Partake in risk assessment sessions which must include all stakeholders
  • Continually challenge Ted size based on customer profile/trends/competitors. Ensure model measurements and minimum measurements are in line with this
  • Challenge grading to ensure best fit across sizes/product areas
  • Study trends to understand new styling. Embrace new trends to make sure you know how to deliver the garment the designer has created so that the supplier can effectively and efficiently deliver it
  • Experience and interest in Pattern Cutting
Deadlines & Reporting
  • Effectively maintain the Critical Path and deadlines for your styles with the help of the Production Systems Manager and your Senior GT
  • Part take in weekly updates regarding dates with Production, Design, Buying and Merchandising
  • Effectively use the reports from the Production Systems Manager / Senior GT to forecast your own work load on an ongoing basis
  • Work closely with your Designers on spec handovers/ proto fitting dates
  • Update your Senior GT on your progress on deadlines on a regular basis
  • Report on the quality of fit and make of the garments you have worked on to your Senior GT after your visit
  • Attend weekly meetings with your team and contribute with regard to all the above
Process
  • PLM
  • Critical Path creation, management to be shared with your Production Coordinator
  • Workload management
  • Monitor and analyze product count season by season for your area
  • Visit store to follow-up in their delivered product into store
  • Develop close working, constructive relationship with other departments at Ted and Ted’s supply base
  • Plan supplier visits at Ted and on site in the factories
  • To communicate effectively the initial design ideas with the supplier
  • Ensure regular risk assessments of your product take place in a timely manner and throughout the year
  • Propose where necessary third-party inspections /internal inspection process for your styles
  • Support the Senior GT with any additional tasks they may ask of you
  • Work closely and attend regular meetings with your Production Coordinator, Buyer and Designer
  • Action necessary investigations should any potential fit of make issues arise from stores/ ECOM and customer services
  • Attend TCOT meetings when required by your Senior GT and feedback to relevant people thereafter
People/ Planning
  • Proactively plan and manage your workload
  • Work with confidence and support other members of the team with fit and quality if relevant to your skills in particular when they are off sick or on holiday
  • Help organize Teds Extra work
  • Train and support the more junior members of the team, such as GT Assistants and any new Teds.
  • Present to store teams in InducTED training when requested by your Senior GT
  • Help organize fit meetings
  • General involvement and proactivity in everyday teamwork
Suppliers
  • Where necessary to travel to factories to assist their technicians and follow up on technical work needed
  • Help organize and part take in supplier reviews
  • Investigate quality issues, search and find options and then feedback these to your Senior GT who will further advise you as to the action you need to take
  • Work with onboarding new suppliers
  • Work with existing suppliers to make sure they understand Ted’s needs with regard to fit and quality of make
  • Assist in onboarding new suppliers
  • Ensure where relevant your styles are included on the 3rd Party inspections list and also the Internal inspection lists at our 3 DCs
Tools of the Trade….
  • Sound working knowledge as a Garment Technologist on at least 2 different product areas
  • Understanding and sound knowledge of garment construction
  • Knowledge and experience of working with suppliers in various countries
  • Sound knowledge and experience on woven, knit and Jersey product groups
  • Garment Fitting ability from development to approval stages.
  • Ability to create measurement specs for new styles
  • Have some knowledge of physical and chemical properties of various materials
  • Qualifications; fashion/pattern cutting
  • Computer literate in Excel, Word and Outlook.
