The Garage Technical Training Manager will play a pivotal role in the delivery of the Halfords Garage Transformation programme over the next 12 months.

The Role Purpose:

A strong leader, you will transform the capability of the Halfords Garage workforce through your technical training expertise and strong automotive industry experience.

Through the development and implementation of technical training programmes from entry to master level technicians, alongside effective quality assurance processes you will create a step-change in the competence and quality of our technicians knowledge and skill to improve sales and service.

By leading and effectively managing the Garages Technical Training team (Team Leader & 7 Autocentre Trainers) and collaborating with the wider Talent, People & operational leaders you will continuously improve our colleague technical career pathway.

Key Accountabilities

  • Leading and managing a team of Autocentre technical trainers to deliver technical skills and qualifications to our colleagues in support of the Garage Transformation Programme.
  • Ensuring the quality and compliance of the training we deliver, including meeting regulatory and legislative requirements and internal standards for quality assurance
  • Implementing processes and procedures to maintain the high standards of training delivery and continuously improving the training through ongoing assessment and evaluation
  • Building relationships with stakeholders and peers, to co-create training programmes that transform the technical capability of our colleagues.
  • Communicating to stakeholders and peers the progress of training delivery to ensure utilisation & delivery is on track to the goals.
  • Identifying skill gaps and executing training plans to support the development of technical skills and capabilities to support colleagues career development.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of training plans and identifying areas for improvement
  • Supporting the achievement of the Garage Transformation Programme through the development of technical skills and capabilities among colleagues.
  • Setting performance goals and providing ongoing feedback and support to team members
  • Developing and implementing team plans, policies, and procedures
  • Managing team resources and facilitating team meetings and decision-making processes

  • Leadership skills: Can lead and manage a team of trainers effectively, setting clear goals and expectations, providing support and guidance, and motivating team members to achieve results.
  • Organisational skills: Has excellent organisational skills to plan, coordinate, and manage the delivery of training programs, as well as to keep track of training records and evaluate the effectiveness of training efforts.
  • Communication skills: Able to communicate effectively with team members & stakeholders, presenting information clearly and concisely and being able to adapt communication styles to different audiences.
  • Interpersonal skills: Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with stakeholders, motivate and support team members, and facilitate collaboration and teamwork.
  • Problem-solving skills: Has the ability to identify and solve problems that may arise during the delivery of training programs, using critical thinking and decision-making skills to find effective solutions.
  • Adaptability: Can adapt to changing business needs and priorities and be flexible and responsive in the face of challenges and setbacks.
  • Industry knowledge: Has a deep understanding of the industry in which the organisation operates and be able to stay up-to-date with trends and best practices in training and development.
