Role Summary
The Fleet Planning and Continuous Improvement (CI) Manager will primarily manage the Fleet Planning strategy and develop medium and long-term maintenance plans. Working closely with the production team, ensure the relevant resources are in place to execute the maintenance plans.
In addition to the planning element, the successful candidate will develop the projects Continuous Improvement strategy incorporating different improvement initiatives such as visual management, value stream analysis, waste elimination and reducing production costs, facilitated through Kaizen events.
CAF Competencies

a) Manage the fleet maintenance strategy in line with the approved vehicle maintenance plan to achieve the required fleet availability.
b) Produce the medium and long-term maintenance plans in conjunction with the production team.

c) To undertake all continuous improvement activities around the depot working to the continuous improvement plan.
d) Work closely with the Production Managers and Fleet Maintenance Controllers to deliver the trains daily, for the required maintenance activities.
e) React to train failures and infrastructure related issues in conjunction with the Operator to minimise impact on the Production plan.
f) Work closely with the clients Planning Team to ensure any timetable changes have minimum impact on depot operations.
g) Lead the plan to reduce fleet wide defects.

h) Develop the Projects Continuous Improvement Strategy.

i) Carry out CI training to the Project team, around facilitating improvement events and the appropriate use of lean tools and techniques.

j) Delivering clear and quantifiable improvements to the Project.

k) Facilitate Kaizen Events.

ACADEMIC &/OR PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
a) Detailed knowledge of Health, Safety, Quality and Environment standards and systems.
b) Full UK driving licence
c) Experience/ qualifications in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering to minimum level 3.

d) Good technical knowledge of rolling stock.

e) Ability to interpret engineering drawings and provide technical solutions to problems.

f) Thorough understanding and competent in the use of IT.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
a) Previous relevant experience in a similar role within the Rail industry.
b) Knowledge of depot maintenance procedures.
c) Good knowledge of Railway Standards.
