Position Summary - Financial Accountant

In the role of Financial Accountant, you will report to and support the Group Financial Accountant with duties relating to External Financial Reporting, Audit Management, General Ledger Accounting and other associated finance project.

You will be a qualified accountant, preferably with experience working in a technical accounting role having made your first move out of practice. This is a fast growing business, so a fantastic time to join.

External Financial Reporting

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Assist with the production of the Group’s published Annual Report and Accounts and Interim Report and Accounts in accordance with IFRS within the set timeline and to a standard resulting in no audit adjustments.
  • Preparation of statutory financial statements, including all disclosures, for 30+ subsidiary entities under FRS 102 within the set timeline and to a standard resulting in no audit adjustments.
  • Preparation of all monthly, quarterly and annual statistical filings.
  • Preparation and filing of biannual Payment Practices and Performance Reporting returns.
  • Assist in the provision of information to external advisors for tax accounting purposes.
Audit Management
  • Preparation of audit schedules and accounting papers with responsibility for the provision of accurate information and responses to Auditor queries in accordance with agreed audit timetables.
  • Coordination of auditor attendance at sites and testing procedures with Retail Finance teams as required.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with the Auditor.
General Ledger Accounting
  • Support the Group Financial Accountant with all month end close activities and preparation of consolidated management accounts - providing full absence cover as required.
  • Preparation of monthly and quarterly Balance Sheet reconciliations for all GL accounts to which ownership is assigned.
  • Ownership of the IFRS 9 ECL Provision calculation and maintenance of IFRS 16 Lease Accounting software.
  • Ownership of intercompany matrix and the associated exception reporting process.
Other
  • Review iXBRL tagging of financial statements for corporation tax filing.
  • Be the ’go-to person’ for all high volume data extraction and analysis activities.
  • Flexible and able to roll-up sleeves and get involved in ad hoc projects, analysis and reporting as and when necessary.

Person Specification
  • Qualified Accountant - ACA or equivalent - preferably from a large accountancy firm.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge: IFRS and UK GAAP.
  • Experience of preparing complex consolidations and reporting from large volumes of data.
  • Advanced Excel skills adequate to maintain complex Excel models and support data analytics activities.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Past use or knowledge of CDK Autoline and Cognos TM1 desirable but not essential.
