How you’ll make a difference

You will help to engage and motivate young people to improve their education attendance. This involves identifying and removing barriers and providing support to children and young people with SEND and their families.

You will work alongside a variety of other teams such as Families Plus and Schools, to provide practical support to families and young people via an early help assessment and plan (EHAP). By working in partnership with families, you will improve the lives of children and young people.

What will you be doing?

  • Working alongside families, you will seek to identify and remove barriers that are reducing school attendance.
  • Regularly, you will complete early help assessments and agree a plan with the family to make progress with the young person.
  • You will build effective relationships with families, children, and schools to provide practical support such as helping children get to school, financial assistance, and helping families negotiate with schools.
  • It will be key for you to liaise with a variety of partners, such as schools, DWP and Families Plus, to identify families requiring additional support, and provide practical support both within the home and within schools.
  • You will report back to supervisors with any safeguarding concerns when necessary.

What we need from you

  • It is required that you are qualified at NVQ 3 or equivalent in a relevant discipline or working towards an appropriate qualification related to the provision of services to children and young people.
  • You must have relevant experience of working in a similar service area, with children, young people or families requiring additional support including children and young people with SEND.
  • It is essential that you have good communication and relationship building skills to work with families needing additional support.
  • You will be able to complete appropriate assessments and plans with families.

Please note that due to the nature of this role it is a requirement of employment that an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is obtained for this post.
