Job Description


Objective:

  • To deliver a professional level of maintenance and fabric services to the site at Ebbw Vale through completion of planned preventative maintenance and any reactive requests sent through to PDA for completion.
  • Working as a team to ensure the site is clean, safe, and secure and running at its best
  • To ensure all planned and reactive maintenance is carried out in line with its scheduled date, SLA and KPI
  • To ensure the company Health and Safety policy is adhered to
  • To ensure compliance with the Mitie Maintenance Business Management System as it applies to this position
  • You will be responsible for checking that the mobile plant is safe and legal, and reporting any faults or problems immediately to avoid accidents or breaches of the law

Main duties:

  • The position will include general handyperson maintenance tasks such as investigating and identifying faults, repair of fixtures and fittings, carrying out site checks, general commercial property maintenance work and overseeing/escorting contractor corks where required
  • Driving and operating a range of site vehicles in accordance with company policy and site procedures showing due consideration for other site users (training provided)
  • Ensuring they person knows how to operate each item of plant safely
  • Always working in accordance with relevant risk assessments and safe working methods, taking into account site hazards on the day, and using the appropriate supplied PPE
  • Responsible for carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance on a wide variety of Fabric and limited Engineering Assets. Activities will include but not limited to:
  • Overall site/building waste responsibility and accountability - collection, disposal, site cleanliness tasks will include site sweeping - mechanical/manual, litter picking, bin emptying, clearing up waste storage areas, plant rooms, bin storage area, jet washing areas as required (where trained to do so)
  • Accountability to ensure no unnecessary waste build up and that all waste disposal is dealt with under specific environmental legislation
  • Ensure the safe storage of waste in accordance with the site permit requirements and that hazardous waste is separated and stored appropriately
  • Keep the site clean and tidy and make sure it always maintains prestige standards
  • Porterage duties (to include moves & changes, furniture management & moves, etc) when required

o Inspect/repair floor, walls, various ceilings and roofs

o Inspect /repair free standing and fitted furniture

o Inspect/clear drainage and gully systems, undertake monthly tap testing and weekly tap flushing

o Inspect/replace luminaries and support weekly emergency light test

o Inspect/repairs to doors, windows and associated furniture

o Painting, re-decorating and hanging of pictures/signed/notices

o Assist engineering staff in a wide range of duties as required

o General site services; to include, sweeping and tidying, ground upkeep

o Carry out Ad-Hoc activities supporting Mitie and Client team including moves/changes

  • Take a pro-active approach to client liaison in association with Engineering Services to ensure that concerns are dealt with or relayed & escalated to management as necessary
  • Ensure that service delivery meets the requirements of the SLAs as detailed in the main contract for all services
  • Assist in carrying out all customer requests always ensuring the highest possible service delivery and in accordance with contract SLAs
  • Ensure administration requirements for paperwork and PDA are actioned on time and all necessary documents/records are maintained accurately
  • Understand and work within all H & S criteria and processes relevant to work activities – Safe systems of work / PPE/ COSHH/ Accident and incident reporting and show a proactive approach to H & S in the work environment taking necessary steps to ensure risks are mitigated
  • Escort subcontractors providing support and guidance on all works
  • Proactive communication with management and customers to foster strong trusting relationships
  • In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, you will be asked to complete any other duties which could be reasonably expected of you

Qualifications
  • Experience within a similar role from a care taker or handyperson background within the construction, repair or maintenance environment
  • Previous experience of working with a cardboard baler and waste compactor (training provided as required)
  • Willing to learn and develop new skills, demonstrates a pro-active approach
  • Strong work ethic
  • Good communicator (written, oral) in English
  • Literate in Microsoft application skills – outlook, word, excel
  • Time Management: Prioritise workload and work to deadlines. Enthusiastic and punctual.
  • Keen eye for detail, practical, problem solver with a ‘can do, will do, with pleasure’ attitude
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste and COSHH
  • Diligent in record keeping and keeping site log books up to date
  • Procure and source own materials and parts
  • Forklift licence (Desirable but not essential)
  • Hold an IPAF & PASMA licence including harness training (Desirable but not essential)
  • Flexible enough to undertake duties to accommodate operational requirements
  • Ability to work under pressure, whilst maintaining attention to detail
  • Ability to managing challenging situations and to adapt to changing circumstances
  • Driving licence (essential) and able to meet the criteria to obtain security clearance and vetting. This includes a criminal record check and a traceable 5 year working history with references from previous employment

Health and Safety responsibilities

  • Always follow Group and Company policies and procedures
  • Report any apparent deficiencies in systems of work or equipment provided that may result in failure of service delivery or risk to health and safety or the environment
  • Use all work equipment and personal PPE properly and in accordance with training received
  • Report any issues or training needs to your Line manager and /or via your divisional incident reporting system

Information Security

  • Ensure compliance with Mitie’s information security procedures in all activities
  • Proactively identify and report security risks to your manager
  • Report actual and suspected security incidents
