We are the Government’s national housing agency. Our role is to accelerate the pace of house-building across the country, particularly in areas where there are the most serious affordability issues – meaning people are struggling to find homes.

Job Description

As the government’s housing accelerator, Homes England is one of the largest landowners in the country. With even greater emphasis on protecting the natural environment we are looking for someone who can ensure high environmental management standards across our diverse and extensive property and estate management portfolio.

You will be called upon to provide technical advice and support to agency colleagues with respect to waste, pollution prevention, dealing sensitively with protected species and associated licensing. You will take the lead in driving continual improvements in relation to the environmental performance of our offices and working practices. That’s a lot of responsibility so you need passion and demonstrate your innovative and enthusiastic leadership skills to provide a value add environmental advisory function to our estate and facilities management teams and across our organisation.

You’ll bring your deep expertise and passion for the natural environment and from your horizon scanning of new policies and legislation help prepare colleagues for new ways of working. Our ethos is to continually develop and improve the services and experiences that add value to our colleagues and partners. There are some exciting projects to get involved in providing you with the opportunity to bring creative solutions and improvements in response to customer feedback, agency needs, market circumstances and emerging environmental and sustainability needs.

ResponsibilitiesDelivering on a mission as bold as ours isn’t always easy.

To be successful in this role, you’ll hold a professional qualification and membership of a relevant professional institution such as IEMA. You will have a solid understanding and experience of environmental and sustainability considerations in the built environment, ideally in estate and facilities management. You’ll have experience of undertaking compliance exercises and audits, and whilst we hope that incidents do not happen, you will have experience of responding to and investigating environmental incidents and making recommended remedial actions, working with regulatory authorities as necessary.

You will have proven experience of engaging effectively with regulators in environmental matters and licensing requirements. A highly organised and skilled communicator, you’ll be proficient at managing relationships with a variety of teams in the agency. Highly developed written skills is critical as you will be responsible for providing unambiguous environmental advice to colleagues, contributing to organisational policy and guidance and drafting reports for our senior managers.

You will be self- sufficient in managing your workload and you will be resilient and comfortable in engaging with stakeholders and our supply chain and your discussions will always be shaped by a good understanding of the commercial and operational functions of the organisation.
