The Role

We are currently looking for a permanent Engineering Lead to join our design team. The role reports directly to the Director of Design Engineering and involves leading and developing the Engineering team under their control in both the creation of design solutions to win new contracts as well as support for the existing product portfolio.

We are looking for a qualified engineer who has a record of accomplishment in leading product design and development. You will be a dynamic individual who is able to build and develop a team as well as lead technical projects.

Job Responsibilities

Managerial
  • Lead diverse design engineering team ensuring the correct resource is available to deliver programme goals.
  • Create a positive workplace environment by managing team performance and engagement.
  • Responsible for the technical and personal development of the team, setting challenging but attainable goals.
  • Provide key performance indicators for team activities to the senior engineering management team.
  • Lead continuous improvement within the engineering team to ensure safe working environment, improve quality, reduce waste, and establish best practice is followed within the team.
Technical
  • Develop product requirements working directly with the customer and internal stakeholders.
  • Propose initial design solutions and mature the selected solution through to manufacture.
  • Identify and anticipate technical problems and define solutions.
  • Lead technical and customer reviews, including formal internal cross-functional gate reviews with senior GKN management.
  • Ensure technical support for existing programmes is maintained.

Someone willing to question why, continuously improve, and stretch out of their comfort zone whilst developing individuals to reach their full potential and build the next generation of aerospace components.

Essential

EXPERIENCE:
  • Demonstrable track record in leading technical teams.
  • Prior experience in an aerospace R&D or design environment.
  • Technical project management skills – developing and integrating with the wider programme plan and functions.
Desirable
  • Knowledge of aerospace design processes, such as ARP4754/4761 and the tools/methods contained therein, (or military equivalents).
  • An understanding of aerospace regulatory and requirements with such as 14 CFR Part 25 and 748/2012 and acceptable means of compliance, (or military equivalents).
  • ILS, MTBF prediction, maintainability and supportability.
