Main Function

To support the development, implementation and evaluation of a Qualification Framework strategy to ensure CrossReach complies with registration requirements and standards.

To achieve targets in vocational and qualifying training as defined by the service area to fulfil registration requirements and to assist with the identification of appropriate resources to meet specialist training needs identified and provide management information on progress to managers.

To ensure the quality of assessment across own dedicated service area by engaging with the necessary personnel systems, processes and standards as required by CrossReach.

To be responsible for providing the appropriate information to ensure the accuracy of the SVQ Centre database in line with the standards laid down by CrossReach.

Main Duties

SVQ Assessment

  • To undertake assessment of candidates at SVQ level 4 or at other levels which may be determined by managerial staff.
  • To draw up a working agreement with candidates and Unit/Project Managers.
  • To devise a plan for the holistic assessment of candidates’ competency based practice.
  • To judge the practice and knowledge evidence gathered by candidates against the national occupational standards.
  • To provide feedback, guidance and support to candidates to enable them to meet the national standards.

Verification of SVQs

  • To sample workplace assessed evidence to ensure that it meets the SVQ standards.
  • To pro-actively raise issues of good practice and advise CrossReach of skills and learning needs. This also includes reporting back to the identified Head of Service, on the standards of practice within establishments.
  • To liaise with Service Managers, Heads of Service and other staff in relation to SVQs and CrossReach quality standards.
  • To advise on the possible strategies for achieving a more competent work force and potential areas of learning and development.
  • To convene and arrange meetings, information days and seminars for those concerned with SVQs including Assessors and Managers, and other contacts outwith the agency (e.g. Internal/External Verifiers and other agencies) as agreed with People Development/Centre Contact Person.
  • To support and advise and be the next link for Assessors within the SVQ structure.
  • To assist and enable Assessors to understand and interpret SVQ standards and monitor these standards through convening standardisation meetings and providing updated information and necessary training towards Continuous Professional Development.
  • To ensure that chosen methods of assessment and assessment decisions are valid and applied consistently by all Assessors for all candidates.
  • To assist and support Assessors gain a relevant assessor award.

Provision of Assessor Training

  • To ensure that Learning and Development within CrossReach is offered from a Christian perspective.
  • To assist in promoting and maintaining a strategy for SVQs within CrossReach.
  • To be able to access and utilise information on developments in Learning and Development.
  • To ensure all courses are evaluated to ensure that they meet the stated objectives and standards.
  • To liaise with Service Managers to develop and maintain the ongoing Personal and Professional (PPD) programme at Unit/Project level and to gather information to monitor the progress of employees.

Other

  • To develop and deliver specialist training within Service area as required and in consultation with Head of Service and Directors required, to represent CrossReach interests by attendance at meetings or committees relating to social care.
  • To liaise with outside agencies as required.
  • To participate in the planning of the external verifier visits and to contribute to these as required.
  • To participate in the planning, organisation and running of standardisation meetings to ensure consistency of standards, procedures and systems as arranged by Learning and Development in respect of CrossReach SVQ centre and to ensure that all SVQ assessors are made aware of any changes required.
  • To participate as required in the Quality Assurance Panel or any other mechanism to ensure the quality of SVQ assessment.
  • Other relevant duties as may, from time to time, be required.

General

To demonstrate and share Christian love and support including sharing with others the leading of worship in accordance with CrossReach policy and by ensuring all staff meetings are opened with prayer and Bible reading.


Qualifications

Essential:

  • A recognised social care, social work, nursing or equivalent care-related qualification, for example SVQ L4.
  • Qualified to D32/33/A1/L&D9Di standard and D34 or V1 or be working towards it.

Desirable

  • An internal verification qualification

Skills and Abilities

Essential:

  • Experience of SVQ assessment.
  • A current clean driving licence.
  • Postholder must possess basic computer literacy skills including use of Microsoft Office and the internet.
