About The Role

Base Location: Flexible UK and Ireland | We’re proud to offer a Flexible First approach to work, and this role is no exception. We will, however need your base ’home’ location to be one of our SSE offices in the UK which includes but is not limited to; Glasgow, Perth, Inverness, Aberdeen, Reading , Havant, Belfast and Dublin.

Salary: Up to £68,200 depending on skills and experience + car / allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

SSE Renewables Onshore Engineering have opportunities within our Electrical Engineering Team working on some of the largest and most exciting Renewable Generation projects in the UK and Europe.

As an Electrical Engineer, you’ll lead and coordinate all electrical engineering deliverables across development and construction projects within the Onshore Europe Renewables business. This will cover the whole project lifecycle and includes onshore Wind and Hydro electrical system design and operation, HVAC substations, land cable systems, electrical power system studies, wind turbine electrical systems and grid code compliance.

Some Of Your Main Responsibilities Will Include

  • Front-end electrical engineering design works.
  • Developing electrical contract documentation including management and preparation of substation, turbine, cable systems and electrical balance of plant contracts and Works Information.
  • Coordinating project engineering works and ensuring correct technical specifications are prepared and applied to project.
  • Writing, reviewing and updating technical specifications for electrical balance of plant equipment.
  • Reviewing external contractor’s and consultant’s specifications and documentation for the procurement of long lead plant items and contracts to ensure SSE requirements are achieved.
  • Reviewing and interpreting power systems studies against relevant grid code requirements to ensure all projects are designed and executed demonstrating and proving full compliance.

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, we would love you to have;

  • A degree in Electrical Engineering and Chartered Engineer status with a relevant institution, or working towards chartered status.
  • Experience in substation layout design, primary equipment specification and testing up to 132kV.
  • Strong technical knowledge and experience of renewable electricity generation including onshore wind power systems and their operation.
  • A good working knowledge of engineering legislation and industry good practice relevant to substation designs, cabling systems and primary plant such as ES, DS, CBs, Instrument Transformers and Grid Transformers.

Although flexible on base location, you will be required to travel as and when is required by the work being undertaken, sometimes to remote locations. A full and valid UK driving license is essential.
