The Challenge

DIO manages £35bn of infrastructure assets and spends £3.5bn each year maintaining and developing those assets on behalf of the whole of the MOD in pursuit of its strategic objectives! DIO’s finance function aims to provide best in class financial management, reporting and advice to a range of stakeholders across the MOD, ensuring value for money for the taxpayer in how the Department’s Infrastructure Portfolio is delivered. This senior role supports the Defence Estate Optimisation portfolio (DEOp), a £6Bn programme of construction, unit moves and disposal activities that, over the next 25 years will modernise and rationalise the defence estate, ensuring it can effectively support future military capability!

The role provides a unique opportunity to work within a MOD Head Office Portfolio via DIO, and to play a pivotal role in a team that offers a diverse range of financial services to a myriad of customers. This opportunity coincides with a very interesting and important phase for the Portfolio: supporting FMC and TLBs to bed in new ways of working, supporting the implementation of the Spending Review outcome. This offers great exposure to senior stakeholders across the Department, as well as an opportunity to hone and use a broad range of technical and soft skills.

We employ approximately 4,900 staff from a very diverse range of professions, and we work across the world; in Germany, Cyprus and the Falkland Islands, Norway, Poland, Kenya, Belize, Nepal and Oman.
