Job Description

The Challenge

This is an exciting opportunity to join this new and dynamic team, contributing to a new agenda for Defence moving forward. You’ll be at the heart of a team of construction and project management experts, dedicated to shaping and innovating construction within the Defence estate to contribute directly to better, faster and greener delivery and efficiency.

Joining a small team of six, you will work closely with all areas of MoD to support Defence in meeting the Government’s infrastructure targets around Net Zero Carbon and Modern Methods of Construction. You will work on new projects, developing design and construction concepts that will inform and transform the way we build across the entire Defence estate.

We are looking for forward-thinking people, with the ability to make a difference, pro-actively managing requirements and risks, and influencing others to deliver successfully. Contributing to the development and establishment of a Programme Management Office, you will seek to identify, understand and deliver the necessary innovation, policy, guidance and standards to allow Defence to meet emerging Government sustainability targets.

Supporting the team lead, you will combine professional and practical project management expertise with a strategic understanding of construction innovation. Undertaking line management responsibilities within the team, you will work to support the definition and delivery of the next phase of Defence construction.

This is an exciting and varied role, focused on applying expertise to help all areas of Defence to change the way we do things, improving performance and creating the standards and guidance to which the entire Defence estate will strive to achieve.

ResponsibilitiesMain Responsibilities

A Typical Week Would Include
  • Developing and implementing innovative construction standards and guidance to reflect and align with emergent high-level Government targets
  • Working with external stakeholders and other Government Departments to ensure the smooth and seamless development of strategic interventions in response to industry challenges and commercial opportunities, feeding this back into MoD for implementation
  • Accountable for identifying and managing potential benefits, assessing feasibility and risk, to evidence upfront investment
  • Facilitating implementation of value and innovation to a newly formed team
  • Using collaborative planning, identify and develop new products, ways of working and processes to meet innovation targets
  • Defining and coordinating Government and Departmental objectives to give advice and direction to all stakeholders
  • Providing meaningful guidance and support to colleagues in cross functional disciplines to support ideas through the Innovation and Value processes
  • Identify areas of innovation that will deliver improved productivity, capacity and quality, and implementing these into operations
Essential Experience

We’d like to hear from you if you have:
  • A good understanding and awareness of the construction industry
  • Evidence of developing and continually improving effective and efficient innovation processes in the Built Environment
  • Strong communication and project management skills to deliver high level objectives
  • Demonstrable capability in driving innovation and fostering change within construction projects and programmes
  • Project Management experience
  • Ability to deliver at pace and encourage others to do the same
  • Chartered in a relevant Architectural, Construction, Estates or Engineering Discipline
Desirable Experience
  • Stakeholder Management experience
  • Awareness of building and construction life cycle for estate assets
  • Experience as a lead consultant, design coordinator or architectural technologist
  • Awareness of Government Construction Strategy and Modern Methods of Construction
  • Awareness of Government sustainability agenda
