SSG is a business unit within the DIO with over 225 staff located throughout the UK and overseas responsible for the design, installation and maintenance of security systems across the MOD and government estate.
SSG assists the MoD and the wider Government Estate in meeting its security requirements.
This vacancy is for the role of a Security Systems Technician in SSG’s South West Region Team. It is an exciting, interesting and challenging role within Government Security at high profile and technically complex Defence sites, other Government Departments and Critical National Infrastructure security programs.

ResponsibilitiesMain Responsibilities

A Security Systems Technician With SSG Will Be Competent To Work Safely On The Installation And Maintenance Of a Wide Range Of Security Systems Including
  • Intruder Alarm Systems
  • External & Perimeter Intruder Detection Systems
  • CCTV Systems
  • Automatic Access Control Systems
  • Control Room IAS, CCTV & AACS Standard Monitoring Systems
  • They will act as focal point on site with day to day liaison with customers
  • Accurately estimate all materials and labour needed for minor works, additions and alterations. Order materials from suppliers and provide equipment lists to Project Manager as appropriate.
  • Provide technical assistance at all levels, create solutions to technical problems including designs. Undertake trade supervision as required
  • Participate in on-call rota
  • Undertake all job-related administration in an accurate and timely way.
Full functional training will be provided for certain systems to suit the business needs.
SSG’s South West region office is based in Shrivenham. Work is predominately at SSG Customer’s sites in the South West geographic region and depending on the successful applicant’s home locations this may involve regular and frequent periods of detached duty. In addition, the post holder may be required to provide support to other SSG regions as necessary and therefore have periods of detached duty in the UK and possibly overseas.

Essential Licences/Qualifications

Licence
  • Full UK Driving Licence
SZs are tasked from home and are provided with a vehicle to carry their tools and equipment to/from sites which are remote and not accessible by public transport and in response to SSG’s 24/7 On Call Rota. Driving a vehicle is a requirement of the job and therefore a full driving licence is required.

Qualifications

A Recognised, relevant Engineering background, Engineering Apprenticeship and / or Engineering qualifications, i.e. Intruder Detection Systems, Perimeter Intruder Detection Systems, CCTV Systems and Access Control Systems

Desirable Membership/Qualifications/Experience

Membership
  • Security Institute
Qualifications
  • HNC in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent
  • NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in Electronic Security Systems (IDS, CCTV, etc) or equivalent
  • ONC/OND in Electronic Security Systems (IDS, CCTV, etc) or equivalent
Experience
  • 5+ years within the electronic security industry
Location
DIO SSG are based across the UK and the SSG South West Region Team based at Shrivenham. SSG Engineers are tasked from Home.
This role will be predominately working in the Salisbury, Wiltshire area.
Hazards
The applicant may be required to undertake occasional work within Radiological and Explosive Storage areas.
