WHAT TO EXPECT


This role exists to research and create fundamental user interface principles for interaction design for future Jaguar Land Rover products. This centres around developing an indepth knowledge and understanding of the science of human behaviour in the vehicle, and using this knowledge to design future interface systems for Jaguar Land Rover products. This will include running scientific experiments to validate the basic principles of user interaction in the vehicle, and using the output of this work to define the operation principles of vehicle based user interfaces that take into account key principles taken from Psychology, Human Factors and cognitive science. Building up a naturalistic understanding of how users interact in cars and using this to create highly effective interface systems. Working within an automotive field requires consideration of the impact of in-vehicle systems on the driving task and hence designing systems that support a driver to carry out this task is the primary aim.

This role will work as part of a team including both interaction designers and behaviour specialists who will work as a team to develop the future interface systems from the ground up and validated all the way through to real world environments.


WHAT YOU’LL DO


You will work as part of an agile team developing scientific principles for future JLR vehicle user interfaces and plan sprints, take scientific knowledge and collect data or develop requirements. You’ll be accountable for building Jaguar Land Rover operation principles for user interface design based a combination of the underlying science, the latest standards and guidance provided by the industry on attention and driver distraction. You’ll be responsible for the creation of targets to support general principles and guide designers on scientific foundations and make clear recommendations of how to achieve targets. You will also lead research into user behaviour in automotive field including university collaborations and students. You will plan and run experiments using a variety of methods appropriate for the activity.


WHAT YOU’LL NEED


Ideally you will be educated to Batchelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Human Computer Interaction, Product Design (with a focus on user interfaces), Psychology, Human Factors / Ergonomics, with a particular interest in fundamental research into in-vehicle interface systems. You will have experience of carrying out user interface research and familiar with the science of human interaction in the vehicle and able to help interpret qualitative and quantative data to improve and iterate design solutions. You’ll be familiar with a human-centred design process and have experience of delivering technical products as part of a team. You should also possess strong interpersonal / communication skills, including ability to manage senior stakeholders and communicate at all levels
