Job Description

As a Supply Chain Data Analyst, your role will involve extracting data for analysis and visualisation purposes. Our data can be housed on multiple systems which require skills such as writing complex SQL to cleanse and export data, Power BI for visualisation and R for analytics. You will be developing interim reporting including metrics, trends over time and thus revealing insights into the behaviour of defence inventory. You will need strong mathematical and analytical skills to be successful in this role and the ability to communicate both verbally and written to our stakeholders is vital. What we do supports DE&S and Front-Line Commands to make informed decisions that will impact current and future operations.

We have a strong team of 13 that are supportive and encourage each other to develop their skills. We even have a weekly tech forum to allow our analysts to ask for help or discuss the interesting things they have discovered whilst working that week.

You will be expected in our Filton based office for a minimum of 2 days a week, with good transport links and a variety of on-site benefits including a gym.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver logistics modelling and data analysis, including for inventory and supply chain, to support DE&S and the Front-Line Commands in accordance with agreed business processes and standards and act as a dedicated point of contact
  • Carry out quality checks of 3rd party analysis on behalf of DE&S to ensure they are fit for purpose and the outputs/recommendations are reasonable, providing feedback where appropriate
  • Maintain an understanding of the latest software and methodologies for Modelling and Analysis to ensure DE&S apply best practice
  • Contribute to the advice and guidance given to business decisions through extraction, analysis, and interpretation of data
  • Support the development of Modelling and Analysis solutions in line with agreed policies and practices
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the wider Operational Delivery function and business to ensure business activities align with Modelling and Analysis policies and procedures, providing risk mitigation strategies where necessary

Person specification

To be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Knowledge of core Modelling and Analysis techniques and software (including but not limited to Power Query, Access, Excel, Power BI and SQL).
  • Ability to engage with multiple internal and external stakeholders to support the delivery of the Modelling and Analysis strategy, polices and processes.
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Maths at GCSE C (or equivalent)

It would also be great if you can demonstrate any of the following desirable criteria:

  • Experience in Supply Chain and using Logistics Information Systems.
  • Experience applying Operational Delivery Support (ILS) principles to Defence acquisition.
  • Experience of using R or Python
