The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) invites applications for the role of Deputy Dean.We are seeking an individual with considerable leadership and management experience gained, for example, as a Head of Department or as part of the senior management team of a Department. The role has recently been expanded in terms of (i) physical resources, e.g., to include sustainability, (ii) people elements, e.g., to include equality, diversity and inclusion, and (iii) digital provision. The role will contribute significantly and directly to the future success of the Faculty and, thus, represents a significant leadership opportunity. The Deputy Dean will be a member of the Faculty’s Deans Group and, along with the Heads of Departments, be a member of the Faculty’s senior management team.The role of Deputy Dean represents a commitment that amounts to a 60% workload. The Department from which the Deputy Dean is appointed will receive a reasonable fees allocation to cover appropriate replacement costs. The reward package is detailed below.
  • Newly appointed Associate Deans will receive the agreed unconsolidated salary uplift. This is equivalent to one increment on the professorial scale or two increments on the main pay scale.
  • After 18 months in post, an Associate Dean’s performance will be reviewed by the Faculty Dean, the relevant PVC (where appropriate) and the Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development using the Associate Dean mid-term review form.
  • The outcome of a successful review will see the salary uplift consolidated and become superannuable.
  • All Associate Deans will receive a £3,000 allowance to support research, knowledge transfer,
scholarly activity, and/or educational enhancement.
  • All eligible Associate Deans can be considered for an additional term of sabbatical/research and scholarship leave if this would act to support their research trajectory and outputs.
  • The appointment is for four years in the first instance, renewable for one further term of up to four years, subject to satisfactory performance in the role.
