Job Purpose

To put Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council in the best position for the future by:

Positioning as a top quartile performing local authority across all local authorities in Wales.

Being sustainable as an organisation.

Being seen as the organisation responsible for improving Merthyr Tydfil and in particular in terms of generating economic growth for the area and enabling people in Merthyr Tydfil to improve their potential for success.

As the Corporate Director for Place, Resources & Transformation and Deputy to the Chief Executive:

1. Support the Chief Executive in the overall leadership and management of the Council, contributing to the corporate and strategic management with the other Director and as a member of the Corporate Management Team.

2. Lead and advise the Chief Executive, Leader of the council, Portfolio Holder(s) responsible for Neighbourhood services, Regeneration, Resources, Central Services and Transformation, Corporate Management Team and Council on all matters relating to such services within the remit of the Portfolio Holder(s) or Services as shall be from time to time, allocated to the Corporate Director.

3. As one of the Council’s Corporate Directors, be directly accountable for defined corporate and/or strategic functions.

4. Ensure the application of Council policies and procedures

5. To performance manage a group of Heads of Service.
