Make your mark for patients.

We’re here because we want to build the future and transform patients’ lives for the better.

At UCB, our people are our experiences and achievements, our passion and drive. That’s why we’re looking for talented individuals with diverse backgrounds and experiences - not just the best and brightest, but those who care about making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients. We promote an environment of diversity, openness, and respect where people can make valuable contributions.

An exciting journey lies ahead. Will you join us in pushing the boundaries of what’s possible?

To strengthen the Antibody Discovery group, based at our research site in Slough, UK, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of Senior Scientist.

You like to work in an environment where you will:

Work primarily in the immunization-dependent arm of the group, but with some exposure to our in vitro Display Technology platforms. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the discovery and delivery of antibody-based medicines using UCB powerful technology platforms. In addition to this, the candidate will also play a key role in developing and implementing new technologies, specifically with a focus on the application of next generation sequencing (NGS) and the associated interrogation of this data using computational approaches.

The role will require close interactions and seamless communication with other scientists in the department and beyond to ensure impact is created on both our therapeutic antibody programs and our technology development goals. Importantly, this will include working closely with our IT and Data Science colleagues to ensure we have the appropriate digital framework and communication lines to support our future strategy.

You will contribute by:

  • Using UCB’s world-class single B cell technologies, discover antibodies as potential therapeutic molecules.
  • Use your exceptional practical skills, excellent communication and team working abilities to drive our innovative antibody projects forward from the laboratory.
  • Provide intellectual and practical input to develop and implement new technologies, especially in the area of repertoire mining using NGS and AI.
  • Build strong links with scientists in our Data Science department and colleagues in IT to ensure that the appropriate digital support is provided to assist the wet lab exploration.
  • Be responsible for clearly presenting work in a variety of cross-functional and potentially, high-level meetings.
  • When required and with an appreciation for the sensitivities around IP protection, promote/publish UCB’s capabilities and expertise externally.

Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills:

  • A PhD (or equivalent) with experience in an industrial or highly regarded academic laboratory.
  • A passion for delivering innovative new medicines for patients suffering with serious disease.
  • Experience of antibody discovery using immunization-dependent single B cell technologies and in vitro display technologies would be beneficial.
  • Experience of using NGS in the context of immune repertoire analysis and antibody discovery/engineering would also be advantageous.
  • Have an excellent understanding of molecular biology and immunology and an ability to use existing knowledge and published literature to help support drug discovery activities and technology development goals
  • Good knowledge and experience of computational solutions and AI strategies for analysing and interpreting NGS data/big data and antibody structures would also be desirable.
  • A highly motivated individual with a proven ability to deliver high quality results within tight timelines.
