This is an exciting opportunity to join the Data Exploitation Team as a Data Science and analytics advisor. You will support the National Lead for Data Science to understand user needs and develop a data science and analytics framework which enables the exchange of information in real-time to run digital services and inform decision making.

We’re looking for a tenacious, well organised person who can engage and bringing others with them as we build this exciting new service.

The team 1

The Data Exploitation Team is part of the Data and Information department, within the Chief Operating Officers directorate. Our department has a fundamental role ensuring that the Environment Agency manages and uses data and information appropriately.

We are a national team providing technical services, advice and guidance to the wider business to ensure that the organisation manages and uses data and information appropriately. Our focus is helping the business make the most of their data.

Experience/skills Required 1

The successful candidate will:

  • Support the National lead to deliver a framework and strategic roadmap for Data science across the Environment Agency, that meets the following aspirations:
  • blending data from different sources, including data for external partners
  • creating data visualisations and dashboards
  • continually improve the service we offer based on user needs.
  • good understanding of the data issues facing the Environment Agency
  • actively help grow an analytical network across the Environment Agency
  • innovate across the organisation to transform our existing analytical approaches.
The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • be able to build and maintain relationships with a range of internal partners.
  • Interest and ideally experience in: building communities of data users; managing data; and undertaking data analytics.
  • Some experience of successfully delivering data projects.
  • be willing to learn and have a flexible approach

Everyone that joins us is required to undertake training and participate in incident response duties when the need to respond arises. Having an incident role is an essential part of working for the Environment Agency and an active way to support communities and prevent harm to the environment. Further information on incident response can be found within your candidate pack

The team are currently based in Horizon House in Bristol, if your base preference is elsewhere, you will be required to travel for some meetings in Bristol and undertake some national travel when we return to conventional working conditions.
