Job Description 1We are seeking a new Data & Evidence Officer Grade 4 for a permanent post.Being resilient to climate change and limiting the impacts of future flooding to people, infrastructure and environment is our challenge in the coming yearsThis is an outward-facing role, we manage projects, programmes and customer requests for our information and need to deal with them promptly, accurately and consistently.As an Officer G4 in the Partnerships and Strategic Overview Team (PSO), you will play a key part in the delivery of our objectives. Reporting to the PSO: Data & Evidence Team Leader, you will fulfil a multi-purpose role delivering some of the teams’ core data management and analyses work.Data Management and attention to detail are key skills the successful candidate will require.The key activities are:
  • Data base management (Excel and Access)
  • Data Improvements: Constantly seeking improvements and efficiencies.
  • Data Updates: managing the process of periodic planned updates ensure data metadata is fit for purpose.
  • Records Management: Ensuring that we capture, use, retain and share our data in accordance with legislation, policy and standards.
  • Overview of our Flood Map update process
  • Maintain and Improve our Historic Flood Map.
  • Review Flood Map information: Responded to Flood Map questions queries.
  • Provide Area input in to Flood Map Project Scope
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.The team 1The Wessex PSO Data and Evidence Team cover the Bristol, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch areas.We lead on the production Flood Maps and associated data sets that we use to communicate the Flood risk. We use a wide range of skills to help us plan for the future. They include the analysis of data to inform future investment plans, engagement with communities and partners, developing strategic approaches to future flood risk management.Experience/skills Required 1You will be a confident communicator, with excellent customer service skills, working with internal, external partners and members of the public. Your enthusiasm, attention to detail, ambition and good organisational skills will help you to achieve deadlines and targets.We welcome all backgrounds, preferably with an interest in geography, engineering, science, or customer related field.It is essential that you have:
  • excellent Excel skills and Data base management coding software knowledge.
  • GIS skills, ideally ArcGIS.
  • understanding of river processes and the impact of flooding.
  • ability to develop/maintain good customer relationships.
  • delivery of work by planning, tracking, gathering, and maintaining data/information.
  • managing multiple priorities and competing demands.
It would be desirable to have:
  • project development experience.
