DWP’s Economic, Serious & Organised Crime (ESOC) are a National team with geographical representation throughout the UK. We are responsible for and are committed to detecting, preventing, dismantling and prosecuting organised criminals facilitating benefit offences and abuse. This mostly involves working across multi law enforcement agencies on high profile and serious fraud operations involving multi suspects in multi-million- pound criminality.

ESOC’s highly trained surveillance operatives are a national resource able to provide an immediate response.

Job description

Heads up….

  • You’ll already be fully trained, experienced, and accredited in the world of surveillance and able to anticipate and flow through traffic as you ride our modified category ‘A’ licence motorcycle.
  • You’ll be fully conversant with, and capable of, deploying the full range of surveillance techniques, investigative tools and equipment.
  • You will have knowledge in actioning tasking documents (requests for surveillance) and liaise with key stakeholder agreeing a plan of action for covert surveillance, which is legally compliant with all legislation.

Key Information

How you will spend your time….

  • As a surveillance officer you will be discreetly following a target and monitoring their activities.
  • You will be collecting, analysing and logging information using different techniques and approaches to observe without being noticed on foot or motorcycle.
  • Where you are, what you will be doing and how long will depend on whom you are following and why. You will ensure the evidence and intelligence is received and presented in the form of high-quality surveillance logs and ensure the professional and accurate preparation and production of surveillance outcome files.
  • You will obtain and write witness statements to evidence witnessed activities, exhibit documentary and photographic evidence obtained and to account for the continuity of exhibits. If necessary, appear as a witness in court.

  • You will have the ability to manage and lead, make effective decisions and be able to communicate clearly and concisely.
  • You will be able to work effectively on your own and as part of a team and be at a good level of fitness.
  • This role requires the need to be able to walk significant distances, at varying paces and wear covert audio equipment as well as take verbal information/instruction from multiple sources.
  • To currently hold a full driving licence for both motorbikes (Cat A) and to drive motor vehicles and comply with all requirements for holding this licence, including the minimum eyesight standards and a good level of hearing.
