Summary

As Head of Role for Business Architecture you will lead the professional development of DWP Digital Group’s community of Business Architects. As an expert Business Architect you will be able to both coach and directly lead other Business Architects.

You will take personal responsibility for building frameworks for learning & development, career pathways and performance management. You will be an essential, integral part of the leadership group within Business Architecture, contributing fully to the development of our knowledgebase, strategy development & alignment and delivery of change underpinned by our architecture. As a Head of Role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with experts in other practices across DWP and wider Government.

You will be driven by the purpose of allowing our Business Architects to be the best they possibly can be and, in turn, deliver outstanding change for DWP and our customers.

Job description

As Head of Role you will be an experienced Business Architect and you will have expert knowledge in the development of communities of practice, as well as being a role model across the Business Architecture Practice.

You will develop and deliver the strategy for ensuring all Business Architects are equipped with the right skills to support the delivery of DWP’s change agenda. You will continuously strive to motivate and inspire the community to be the very best they can be.

As a leader within the community you will take on line management duties as required. It is probable that you will directly line manage all working-level business architects as you have personal responsibility for their development towards practitioner-level and beyond.

You will partner with the Lead Business Architects to grow the capability of the Business Architecture profession and take ownership of monitoring performance, obtaining feedback and continuous improvement.

You will collaborate with other expert business architects on the development of methods, tools and setting of quality standards. You will take responsibility for ensuring the community understand what is expected of them in the use of those tools and methods and how they will meet those standards. You will ensure that the learning and development frameworks are based upon those methods, tools and standards.

Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include but are not restricted to, the following:

  • Ensure that best practice within Business Architecture is aligned to the delivery of DWP’s strategic goals.

  • Be the leader of the Business Architecture Community of Practice. Organise community events to share expertise and build best practice.

  • Using expert coaching and mentoring skills empower the Community members to continually review and challenge ways of working, promoting an appetite for continuous improvement.

  • Ensure that Business Architects have the appropriate level of proficiency in the use of all aspects of the knowledgebase and methodologies.

  • Contribute to the development of Business Architecture collateral and ensure that a framework / approach exists to assess its efficacy. Promote a culture where business architects seek to continuously improve this collateral.

Salary Information

National: Salary for this role is from £60,740 (Band min) to £72,933(Band max).
London: Salary for this role is from £66,252 (Band min) to £78,765 (Band max).

Where the maximum salary is offered, a Digital Allowance of up to £7,067 (National) and £1,235 (London) per annum is available for exceptional candidates, based on our assessment of your skills and experience.

Our offer to successful candidates will be based on an assessment of your skills and experience as demonstrated at interview.

Existing Civil Servants who secure a new role on lateral transfer should maintain their current salary.

Existing Civil Servants who gain promotion may move to the bottom of the next grade pay scale or 10% increase in salary whichever would be the greater.

This role can be based out of either London, Blackpool, Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds or Sheffield corporate hub locations.

The Department is committed to promoting flexible ways of working, whilst enabling the business to operate at maximum efficiency and will expect colleagues to work from a blend of locations, including some time working at home, as required. The corporate hub location will be the designated place of work and any remote or home working arrangement does not constitute a change to your designated place of work or contractual Terms and Conditions. Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.
