That’s why we’re on the lookout for a passionate Corporate Responsibility Assistant, focusing on Ethical Trade, to join the team at our Head Office in Atherstone.

This role is crucial in the development and implementation of the ethical trade and modern slavery strategy and initiatives to deliver against Aldi’s internal and external targets. This area receives a lot of attention, not only from external stakeholders but also across the rest of the business, so it’s vital you’re a confident and professional individual.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Corporate Responsibility Manager to:
  • Manage the ethical trade programme, which ensures people in our supply chain are treated fairly and with respect for their basic human rights and wellbeing.
  • Manage ethical trade and modern slavery projects.
  • Develop the Aldi UK and Ireland modern slavery statement.
  • Train key departments and suppliers on ethical trade and modern slavery.
  • Work with external consultants and ethical trade organisations to:
  • Drive improvements in labour standards.
  • Prevent and tackle modern slavery.
  • Work with Buying Teams and suppliers on ethical trade and modern slavery initiatives.
  • Act as a key point of contact in the business on ethical trade and modern slavery.
  • Maintain regular contact and attend meetings with key external stakeholders (including consultants, industry groups, NGOs and government bodies) to:
  • Understand any emerging ethical trade and modern slavery issues.
  • Understand changes to relevant legislation, such as the modern slavery act.
  • Respond to external stakeholder queries, customer/NGO/government letters.
  • Regular contact with the Aldi South group’s international Corporate Responsibility Department and input into international Corporate Responsibility working groups.
  • Work with the Communications and Marketing Teams to explore opportunities to promote the work that Aldi is doing in this area and update the website with latest corporate responsibility activities and information.
  • Regular research of the market for competitor comparison, media trends and NGO campaigns to inform strategy.
  • Proactively develop own knowledge and understanding of topics, demonstrating initiative and suggesting ways of improving current ways of working.
  • Provide general support to the Corporate Responsibility Manager including data entry and analysis, drafting letters, memos, presentations and communication materials.
  • Demonstrate flexibility by working on other Corporate Responsibility topics when required, for example responsibly sourced fish.

Essential Skills Required:

  • Educated to GCSE level with 5 grade A to Cs, especially in English and Maths.
  • Corporate responsibility experience.
  • Interest in ethical trade, modern slavery and/or fish.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Enthusiastic, confident, professional and articulate.
  • Ability to liaise and build relationships with people at all levels.
  • High level of attention to detail, organisation and time management skills.
  • Resilient – comfortable working on multiple projects within a fast paced, fast changing working environment.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects and tasks whilst meeting key deadlines.
  • Work and deliver under own initiative.
  • Experienced in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • Excellent understanding of the corporate responsibility agenda and trends.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible with the ability to change plans as circumstances change.

Desirable Skills Required:

  • Educated to degree level, preferably in a related field.
  • Experience in the areas of ethical trade, modern slavery trade or fish.
  • Confidence with data analysis, reading and understanding data and reporting.

  • Salary starting from £32,075, rising to £37,455.
  • 5-day/40-hour week, working Monday- Friday.
