Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Critical Care, Band 8c

Immediate start,Fixed term contract 12 months.

An opportunity has arisen for a 1.0 WTE Consultant Clinical Psychologist to support the Critical Care teams at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust Immediate/early start required and please note that the Trust is considering development of permanent posts in CCU.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have a regular physical presence in the Critical Care areas at both the Queens Medical Centre site & the City Hospital site in order to be physically available to support patients and their family members and where required, for staff too, including by phone or email. The service will be delivered in collaboration and consultation with senior Psychology staff and CCU staff. Supervision will be provided by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist working in Major Trauma, who also has expertise within the area of Critical Care.

The successful applicants will be welcomed to the Department of Clinical Psychology & Neuropsychology within the Trust. Currently there are over 30 Clinical Psychologists, and Assistant and Trainee Clinical Psychologists working across a number of medical inpatient and outpatient services within the Trust. We have excellent links with the University of Nottingham and the regional Clinical Psychology Doctorate Courses.

  • Professional doctorate or equivalent qualification in Clinical Psychology
  • Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council

  • Additional training in a specific model such as ACT.
  • Undertaken training in the supervision of trainee clinical psychologists

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience as a Clinical Psychologist working in a staff support setting, demonstrating readiness for an 8C role
  • Demonstrable experience as a Clinical Psychologist working in a Critical Care setting, demonstrating readiness for an 8C role
  • Experience of providing a reflective practice space to staff and supporting staff groups.
  • Skills in the use of psychological assessment, intervention, and management, frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration
  • Experience of working with patients and families in a CCU setting
  • Ability to integrate available highly complex clinical information into a coherent formulation and to apply it in treatment and clinical management
  • Experience of planning and organising own work time and responding to unforeseen situations as they arise, demonstrating readiness for an 8C role

  • Well-developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.
