Our client

EPUKI represents the UK interests of EPH, a leading energy group across Europe. EPUKI’s strategic focus is to achieve substantial further growth, through acquisitions and investment in construction of new build generation assets.

The UK business has grown rapidly through both acquisition and organic development and is now entering into a new and exciting development phase including the development of a new 1.7GW CCGT, a 300MW battery storage plant, a 300kte CHP plant and a number of other projects.

The Construction Director will have controlling responsibility for the construction, commissioning and handover to operations of the Eggborough CCGT project which is a 1.7GW new CCGT plant and will be the largest CCGT constructed in the UK in over 10 years. Responsibilities are specifically in relation to implementation of the project ensuring that all work packages are aligned, managed and delivered to the required timeframe and budget.

The opportunity

Reporting directly to the CEO, you will provide effective leadership to the project team and take ownership for the successful delivery of the project.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working alongside the Development Team to scope and procure all work packages and select suitable project advisers and consultants;
  • Implementing robust processes to ensure all work packages are fully integrated and interface points are managed effectively.
  • Developing and implementing the Construction Management Plan to include an appropriate staffing plan to ensure the effective delivery of the project;
  • Identifying key project milestones aligned to the overall project timetable and ensuring that the project is managed effectively with any variances appropriately flagged and mitigation plans implemented where necessary;
  • Effectively managing the contractors, project adviser and consultants contracts to deliver on time to budget ensuring safe delivery, and compliance with all agreed contractual requirements, without compromising the highest quality standards of work, across the whole project;
  • Ensuring that any claims are managed in the most effective manner considering contractual, technical, commercial, cost, programme and legal requirements and delivering ‘best for project’ outcomes and;
  • Ensuring compliance with the requirements of the HSE and other legislative bodies. This to include ensuring that all consenting requirements are met;
  • Managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders (including our parent company EPH), providing high-quality reporting to the Project Board as well as managing relations with local government/regulators and members of the public.

About you

As a degree-qualified and experienced Construction Director, you will have previous experience in the successful execution of large complex EPC, multi-contract construction projects. With an extremely strong commercial and entrepreneurial mindset; you will demonstrate a strong commercial understanding of construction contracts along with the ability to drive performance and delivery through multiple subcontractors to mitigate risk whilst delivering “best for project” outcomes.

A deep understanding of the complexity of multi-contract construction projects will enable you to demonstrate the ability to understand the impacts on each other, whilst effectively driving contractor performance and commercial management of contract variations.
