How you’ll make a difference

You will make a difference as a Community Learning Family Tutor being a frontline role inspiring and supporting children and families to develop and improve their skills and knowledge, develop self-confidence, resilience and aspirations, empowering them to play an active part in their learning – something that can be truly life-changing.

What will you be doing?
  • As well as being responsible for the teaching and learning in the classroom, you will undertake planning and preparation beforehand; record-keeping and evaluation afterwards.
  • As a member of the Community Learning team, you will liaise with the Development Worker or Project Coordinator who has organised your course and take part in continuing professional development activities, including training sessions and support meetings.
  • You will use a wide range of teaching methods and behaviour management strategies in order to maximise learning in the class.

What we need from you

  • Ideally, you will be innovative, creative and passionate about learning.
  • You will have experience of tutoring, training or teaching practice, including producing schemes of work and lesson plans appropriate to groups/classes of target learners (children and families) and using varied teaching methods, differentiation and Individual Learning Plans to meet those learners’ needs.
  • You will have excellent interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills, together with proven ability to motivate, inspire and challenge learners to reach their full potential.
  • You will be able to develop supportive partnerships with families, teachers and schools to provide children with the best possible learning opportunities.
