York Learning offers a full range of learning opportunities within a variety of venues throughout the day, evening and weekends.

About the role;

As a Community Learning Co-ordinator you will be an enthusiastic and well organised individual, with a ‘hands on’ approach in supporting our Curriculum Managers to plan and run the courses linked with this centre.

You will have a particular focus on our Health and Wellbeing offer and will be based at our Huntington Adult Learning Centre.

You will have input into the development of the Health and Wellbeing programme and will be expected to manage a team providing a high quality and multi-disciplined administrative function.

The team provides reception, telephone, clerical, word processing, spreadsheet, finance, venue and room booking functions, as well as practical support to the curriculum manager and tutors as required.

25 hours per week

(There is some flexibility with regard to when hours are worked but during term time in particular; Tuesdays to Fridays.

Working hours are until 6.30pm at least on Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays when evening classes take place).

Key skills and experience required;

You will be working in a lively and supportive environment with a wide range of managers and colleagues. Much of the work will be customer facing and you will therefore need to have good interpersonal skills.

There will be a requirement to support general administrative tasks on a regular basis and particularly to cover for colleagues when required. This is a customer facing role with both telephone and face to face interaction.

Having Level 2 qualifications in English, maths and IT is a minimum requirement for this role.

You will have previous customer service experience and a positive and flexible outlook is key to a successful applicant.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C1: Can express him/herself fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly. Only a conceptually difficult subject can hinder a natural, smooth flow of language.

At the moment due to the impact of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, some of our staff are working remotely from home but a return to a combination of working remotely and physically from the Council’s offices is anticipated in the near future.

As a new starter, your contractual location will be the designated council office for your team. Your working arrangements will vary according to your service and role, and the current Government guidance. For many roles, there will be more opportunities in the future for remote and hybrid working. However, this comes with the expectation that, as workplaces open up, there is likely to be an ongoing and occasional requirement to attend the workplace.

City of York Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all employees and volunteers to share this commitment. We require the successful candidate to undertake an enhanced Criminal Record check via the Disclosure and Barring Service.

This post will be subject to a Police Vetting request.

The Council is highly committed to investing in the talent and wellbeing of our staff and can offer a generous annual leave allowance, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme, comprehensive Health & Wellbeing initiatives and a reward package which recognises your contribution. We can offer flexible working practices, community engagement and volunteer activities and, as part of our commitment to you, promote continuous Learning & Development. In addition we also offer a growing range of discounts, rewards and savings.
