Pertemps are recruiting for Communications Officers to join a reputable Public Sector organisation based in West Lothian on a temporary basis. This role will involve working with the Communications Manager in the delivery of the communication strategies and work plans. Whilst office base is Livingston, the client offers a hybrid flexible working model. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with previous communications experience who are keen to work in a challenging and varied role.
Hours: Mon-Fri 9am-5pm
Assignment: 6 months
Pay: £16 per hour

Main duties
- Lead on the drafting of press releases, articles and content, for a wide variety of media channels.
- Develop relationships with journalists and answering straight forward queries and enquiries. Escalating complex or sensitive matters to the Communications Manager.
- Monitor media coverage and disseminate any information to the Communications Manager. Undertake research and investigation work and make recommendations for improving coverage. Maintain a library of press cuttings which is easily accessed.
- Lead in the development and delivery of focus groups across a wide geographic area in order to obtain feedback and data on our communication approach to enhance and improve impact and method of delivery.
- Lead in the creative development of the use of social media, in line with the communications strategy, including the production of content calendars and plans.
- Collate and analyse social media data and trends, making recommendations for improvement to Communications Manager.
- Provide analysis of data for the website through the use of Google Analytics.
- Write and maintain all publicity materials for events, conferences and workshops.
- Lead on the development and delivery of a bi-annual newsletter for dissemination to key stakeholders.
- Work with the Communications Manager in the creation and delivery of the annual report.
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure correct formatting, style and branding guidelines are followed and implemented by other staff members for any organisational documents they may be developing, e.g. policies.
- Lead on the development and promotion of internal communications channels, such as the monthly staff e-bulletin
- Work closely with the Executive Business Manager and the Data Protection Officer to identify and implement improvements to the organisation’s approach to internal communications following the yearly staff survey.
- Lead on the development and implementation of any internal communications campaigns for staff.
Experience, Skills and Knowledge Required
- Degree level qualification, ideally in a communications related subject with notable experience.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills. Excellent marketing and communications skills with a strong knowledge of digital communications and engagement.
- Excellent project management and organisational skills. Ability to manage multiple projects, develop good collaborative relations and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience of producing communication products to a high standard and providing realistic and insightful advice to senior managers.
- Ability to use the most effective channels and technologies available to maximum advantage. You will be adept in utilising diverse methods of communication, including websites and social media.
- Previous experience of working in the public or third sector.
