We are looking to recruit two enthusiastic persons to join the team within the Covert Authorities Bureau as a Communications Data Investigator. The successful candidates will receive training to the National Standard to act as a single point of contact between the telecommunications and postal operators and Wiltshire Police. This involves establishing good working relationships with the communications industry providers.
The role will involve assessing applications for communications data ensuring that they are lawful, necessary and proportionate and for providing advice to Authorising Individuals and Designated Senior Officers. You will assist applicants in the preparation of their applications.
You will become an expert within Wiltshire Police on the services and data sets that are available to assist with a large variety of investigations. This will involve understanding all the forms of communication, including the world wide web, traditional forms of communication, over the top applications, telematics and the internet of things, linking them together to assist in identifying suspects, witnesses and vulnerable people for the purpose of prevention or detection of crime. You will need an investigative/inquisitive mind-set, to provide solutions to issues raised by the investigation team.
At times, the role will require you to work under pressure with minimum supervision in investigations involving life at immediate risk or within crimes in action. In such circumstances, you will be required to provide fast time analysis of the communications data to the investigation team.
The post is based at Police Headquarters, Devizes but you may be required to travel to other locations to work within a major investigation team. There are opportunities to work from home in line with the Wiltshire Police policy. Currently the role does not require the post holder to work shifts but this is under review.
You will required to maintain high standards of confidentiality at all times as some applications will surround well known persons, colleagues and sensitive professions. The successful applicant will be subject to security vetting.
