Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for someone familiar with the experiences faced by refugees and asylum seekers in the UK to help bring administration capacity to our external communications. This is particularly for our new ‘Hospitality Pledge’ initiative in partnership with Dr Krish Kandiah.

2021 has seen many new challenges and opportunities for local churches in the UK as they seek to welcome those seeking refuge to their communities. The government’s upcoming Borders and Immigration Bill has the potential to completely change the way that people are able (or unable) to seek refuge in the UK and recent news from Afghanistan has brought a new wave of empathy from the British public to welcome refugees to the UK. The Hospitality Pledge seeks to enable the UK Church to respond to these new challenges and opportunities, practically demonstrating the Biblical mandate to welcome all those seeking refuge in our communities. It will mobilise Christians to open their homes to those who need one, and encourage all churches to be intentionally welcoming communities to refugees and those seeking asylum.

The Communications Administrator will be responsible for a range of communications and related tasks, particularly (but not exclusively) within the Hospitality Pledge project, under the oversight of Welcome Churches. This includes working closely with the Hospitality Pledge Director to assist him in his everyday tasks and overseeing communications about the project for UK church and general audiences. They will also administer sign ups via our websites and ensure that the functionality of the website is sufficient as well.
